I just asked round the office to see if anyone had any pain killers, somebody replied saying yes but he couldn't give me any as it was against health and safety regulations and if i were to have an allergic reaction then he would be held responsible. I find this a little hard to believe, can't find anything on google to suggest this. Does anyone know if this is true or is it down to the company's own health/safety rules ?

Same with us, my mates at work give me them, but no one I dont know well will as I might have an allergic reaction lol

We just send am Email round the office saying "n33d drugs" usually get a few painkillers and some other stuff chucked my way, but the company doesn't give them out, probably for H+S, I know they can't in schools anymore.

It is the way the UK is going, no one wants to be sued.

We had a drawer at work which was constantly restocked with painkillers, no one was allowed to give them to you but you were welcome to help yourself.

I have them and do offer them, as whats to stop people going to the shops and buying them?

However, I am not allowed to carry them in any of my first aid kits. Or hand them out as a first aider.

Basically its because a first aider cannot prescribe drugs.

Not allowed at our place either. I have heard the exact same H&S rule spouted many times before. If you were to 'accidently' leave some on your desk and someone just happened to take a couple when your back was turned, well, there would be nothing you could do . . . ;)

Interesting. Not sure how it works giving out non-prescription only medication. Perhaps like the later post said - just leave them here and if one or 2 happen to go walkies...!

And nice thought - someone called Biohazard giving out medication!

You could probably get done for negligence or something

It's ok if it's an employee surely, as long as they're not H&S?? How utterly ridiculous. You could equally easily go into Tesco and buy some painkillers that killed you.

Tesco have a legal contract and license I would imagine permitting them to sell drugs of a certain strength, if someone suffered an adverse reaction and the drugs weren't "bad", Tesco wouldn't be sued.

In my last job we couldn't keep painkillers in a first aid kit, but if someone needed them, it was quite common for a team leader to go around everyone asking if they had any.

I work at Sainsbury’s, we had a pharmacy built in over a year and a half ago now but before that if we wanted pain killers , we had to go buy them from the shop floor , now we just go to the pharmacy n nab em from there, all non drowsy malarkey (I’m like I want to be ill so I can go home dammit :D) give me bad drugs!!
