Painting inside garage walls

Definitely don't PVA walls, that's like the worst thing you could do.

By applying PVA to walls you just ensure the paint sits on top of the PVA then peels off as soon as it becomes warm or humid or damp in there. The only time you should unibond a wall is using a very watery mix prior to plastering.

Use stabilizer on any blocks prior to masonry paint, bricks use masonry paint thinned to the consistency of double cream for the first two then give it one or two more full coats.

Lights have been dispatched. Thinking of mounting them 1.6M apart from the ends and each other, this gives even spacing then.

Just been looking at this exterior paint. It's not cheap!!! Do i have to use this or can i use the normal indoor stuff?

I have painted out a few garages internally straight onto the bricks/blocks. They seem to have held up for years with no problems. The bricks are porous so totally suck the paint in, it isnt ever going to come off!

My method is to use very cheap normal emulsion. The bricks will soak it up rapidly so the cheaper the better. I have used either leyland 15L tubs from screwfix £15 for 15L, B&Q Value 15L (even cheaper than £1/litre i think), and also Crown 15L tubs when they have been on offer at 2 for £30 (£1/litre). The Crown and leyland paint is way too good for the job really, but at £1/litre you cant really go wrong. A single 15L tub will likely do you for a whole single garage.

I dont bother watering it down, as i say at £1/litre who cares and the thicker the better as far as ive always been concerned.

What I was thinking

Reviews look good. Might get 2. Did you brush or roller?

Yeah that, but wow that price has gone through the roof.

I'd go to B&Q then and get Value emulsion. Its a bit thin for interior use on plaster unless you are sealing new plaster only, but for a garage on brick it will be fine. You should be aiming to pay about £1/litre for cheap emulsion in white/magnolia.

Have used the last item before, was really watery and pretty crap. Fact a small bedroom took the lot to cover and even then had to sand it back and use crown.

Am tempted with the crown due to the past experience. £22 for 20 is pretty good. Think my mothering law gets 10% off on a Wednesday as well. A whole 20P

Yeah the crown paint is good, good enough for normal interior use (we do all our houses out in it)

At £22 for 20L thats very good indeed, go get some of that :)

Easiest way to insulate a brick garage will be to batten and then insulate between them, then board. You get an interior finish then too.

Depends what you want the room for :)

Was thinking about something in the roof but can't be bothered now. Heater will do for when your in there

Paint is ready for collection, had B&Q call

Missise has been to screw fix, gotten vent kit and 2 tubes. Also says the lights have arrived!

HSS offer has expired which is a shame, I'll have to look about a bit more

Floor paint arrived today. Everything but the drill cutter is present.

Tonight have gutted the garage of everything. Brushed the walls down, beams, removed all the random blocks of wood that where fitted holding the plasterboard in place. Swept out about 5 times and vacuumed with the Henry.

Tomorrow plan to get 1st coat on the walls. Will do all the way up above the joists. Once walls done will get the floor done.

Might try to get a coat on, tip run and get the drill cutter. Productive day possibly.

2 tubs to cover all the walls. Had to is brushes in the end. Roller just didn't work. Have slapped it on good and proper. Heater in there to dry it off.

Also drilled the vent hole. That took and hour, I'm still shaking and deaf.

Whilest I have the tool still I plan to get permission to drill a hole on the garage and the house to lay an ethernet cable. Well will lay as manny as I can fit as will use some hose pipe as my duct.
