Palit 3070 cooling design - is it as bad as it looks?

Have a look at the following:

Why have the designed it to have daft bits up plastic blocking the fan air flow?

Surely this will just prevent efficiency and add noise?

Has anyone got one - can they comment please and what they think of the card....

Maybe the target audience is people who mount their card vertically like in that picture.

I would like to see temperature comparison with and without the pointless plastic though.

Probs add noise and reduce efficiency, but I gather 3070 is reasonably efficient and cooler is likely fine with plasticky bits on it. There is a review on model: https://appuals.com/palit-gaming-pro-geforce-rtx-3070-review Mid 60's at stock with fans at 1400 RPM seems reasonable if review is to be believed.

I love the design. Heat passes through more than other designs, e.g. Zotac.

Got a 3070 Gaming Pro, it's a far superior cooler than what my GB 2070 Windforce had, way quieter and cooler-due to a much bigger heatsink, I was surprised tbh.

I see it is held in place by screws. Can it be removed with no down sides other than the card might look weird without it?
