Panasonic BD35 divx playback?

I have one. I couldn't get it to work.

It also spends about 35 seconds to open/close the disc-tray. And I'm not even exagerating.

Apart from that though it's cool ... oh -- and loading blu-rays is slow as well! And it could do with wi-fi for internet updates.

Seems a little daft that i can play divx, and dvd-rw's but not divx on dvd-rw. surely that would be the most common duo for divx playback as you can fit a lot more on a dvd than a cd.

mines connect direct to the network so wifi dont matter, but yeah wifi would be a lot more useful if you were after tidy cables.

I'm guessing it's probably just non-finalised discs it can't play from. Most players like this can only play from finalised discs.

In all honesty if you want to play avis etc a dedicated media player is much better.

Yes, actually you are exaggerating ... I have a BD55 which is the big brother of the BD35 (gains some extra outputs but the insides are basically the same). The 35 seconds figure is an overstatement for opening and closing the disk tray.

To eject from a running blu-ray to an open tray takes ~4 seconds. From open tray to FBI warning being displayed is ~15 seconds on the disks I've been watching today. From that point skipping ahead to the main menu and playing was possible. Initial power on takes a while but that because the software stack loaded is more complex than a straight DVD player and is not that extreme unless you have no patience.

As for not having wi-fi being an issue ... how many consumer blu-ray players have that? .. it's not as if all of them have network access at all. This is you trying to say there is a fault with the player because it doesn't have a feature that it is not advertised as having and it's competitors don't have either.

Oh, and it's been replaced by the BD60, which may support DiVX over USB, (along with MP3 and JPG), and also has some form of internet portal connection giving network access to Youtube.
