I'm going to finally take the dip into Blu-Ray but can't quite make up my mind which player to go for. The Sony seems highly thought of and it seems very good value at £130 with 3x Blu-Ray movies and P&P included.

The Panasonic also seems well regarded but more slightly more expensive at £150 but with more features. The fact I've also got a Panasonic 42" plasma and home theatre kit also makes this more attractive.

Are these so close it's just down to personal choice or is the Sony too good to miss?

You can also at the moment go for the 7 free BluRays if you were yo get the panny player ;)

I just got a BD80 recently and it's a great bit of kit - the BD60 is essentially the same minus 7.1ch analogue outputs and a few other small things - highly recommended!

given up on comparing BDP tbh. In the end it's down to pers. choice really, if there are differences they will be subtle ;) Only caveat would be connections, hi-fi qualities, menu settings etc... but those are usually in the pricier models, and even then the difference is not night and day

I've got the panny and it's been fine.

As said unless spending loads they will all roughly be the same.

To me as long as it plays a dvd or blu ray then it's fine, I don't need or want it to do anything else.

They are both good. I bought the Sony though as it has a coaxial SP/DIF and my AV amp's opticals are all used already. The panny only has Toslink. And before anyone says but but... the sound should be HDMI, I have yet to hear a "HD" AV amp at affordable prices that outperforms my oldschool Tag processor, both DTS and 640kbps Dolby + sound great :P.

Was thinking to myself "no it doesn't it also has coax" but then I remembered I have the 80 which has those extra outputs!

Should come in useful in the future - for now I'm just using the optical output.
