I've finally been given the green light to upgrade my 42" plasma telly I've had since 2009.

I looked at this Panasonic one before and it can be had for £699 but is it still the one to go for at this size? 50" is the max the long haired general will let me have so please no 55" recommendations. She'll only poo poo them and you don't realise how long it took me to get the extra 8" in the first place :)

I think I'm right to remember that although the 700B range "supports" HDR, the VE panel itself is not really capable of anything extra ordinary, especially in terms of black. However, the main complaint is viewing angles and uneven backlighting which are downright poor by today's standards.

I have the DX750B its an excellent set and the 4k HDR is unbelievable. Got a few UHD films now Mad Max, The Martian, Star Trek I+II yo name a few are brilliant. The viewing angle can be a bit poor if off centre but we dont view it anything other than more or less straight on. Reason I bought it was the 5* reviews and having Panasonic TV's before. Needs a bit of fine tuning in the settings to get it just right and the anti-glare filter takes a bit of getting used to and wont be everone's cup of tea.

trouble is with such glass fronted panels its a bit like marmite, you either like them or hate them. I try and stay clear as I hate the reflections

More than happy with my TX-50DX700B, it does HDR very well, have sampled HDR on Netflix and 4K Blu-Ray (The Revenant, superb!). The VA panel has super blacks and I appear to not have noticed any other issues. For the £640 I paid I think it is amazing value. Gaming on it with my Xbox One S is superb, playing Rise of the Tomb Raider. :)
