Does any one suffer from panic attacks? How do you deal with them? I recently started having them after having a op on my lower back. It's one of the worse feelings I have ever had. I can't understand why I have started having them. :( :(.

Completely sympathise. I used to get them but I haven't done for a while. I can't explain why they stopped because I don't know.

I found that over time I was able to deal with them better. I worked out strategies for dealing with them.

What you need to do is control your breathing. What happens is that your body thinks it's not getting enough oxygen, so you breathe more. You get a higher ratio of oxygen to carbon dioxide and this constricts the blood vessels, which results in the tingling sensation and light headedness. What you need to do is slow down your breathing. One excellent way to do this is to breathe into a paper bag. By rebreathing your exhaled breath, you increase your carbon dioxide levels and this will slow your breathing and calm you down.

No paper bag around? Cup your hands together over your nose and mouth, making the best seal you can. Rebreathe your exhaled breath until your breathing has slowed and you have calmed down.

Unfortunately, there's a psychological issue here as well. A positive mental attitude helps. Convince yourself that you will get through an attack and reaffirm this to yourself. Although the overwhelming instinct during an attack is to flee, I must stress that although it will stop an attack, it won't help in the long term. I found that facing the fear and just riding out an attack seemed to reduce the chance of it occurring again in a similar situation. It's difficult and may well be hard to cope with, but you can beat these attacks and I'm sure you will in time.

about 13 years ago when i was 17 i went to the hospital because my face felt all wierd similar to pins and needles and i was told it was because i had a panic attack.

never had another since and at the time i was only watching tv.

Lol, my dad just had an op on his back, it was only a 3.5cm incision. Came home and it bled about 10-15ml of blood a few hours later, but he went in to full ape **** panic mode and had to lay down for a few hours :D, i was like wtf. Then everybody walked the dinosaur.

Didn't they have to open the door and get on the floor first?
