I’m after some advice on where i stand with ParcelMonkey and what can i do or am i basically screwed?

Sold a Dell U2711 monitor on the Bay a about a month ago for £400+, arranged courier collection by parcelmoney/citylink. Paid for compensation for up to £400.

Driver collected and signed for package, and was "lost" almost immediately. They lost track of it from arriving at the Leeds depot. The drivers not dodgy at all, know him as he used to be our cricket umpire a few years ago.

Anyhow i wait 2 weeks until it’s been officially declared as lost, refund the buyer in full as you do and file a claim with Parcelmonkey.

Today received this reply from them: -

Reply saying when you said monitor you didn't mean an (LCD/CRT/TFT/LED) computer monitor as specified, you meant a bespoke bit of hardware without a screen which monitors environmental conditions.

It also says this in the terms and conditions:
4.2.
The Company will not, without its specific agreement with its Carriers, carry livestock, liquids, perishable goods, glass, LCD screens, plasma screens, CRT screens, LED screens, china, porcelain, pots, vases, ceramics, un wrapped furniture, freestanding furniture, un packaged goods, damaged goods, gases, pyrotechnics, arms and ammunition or corrosive, toxic, flammable, explosive, oxidising or radioactive materials.

Im sure that 90% of people on here wouldnt bother reading the T+Cs either, but i doubt there's anything you can do unfortunately :(

Harsh but unfortunate. This is true of nearly all delivery companies (incl. Parcelforce, UPS) btw, they don't insure or compensate for monitors.

My local Mailbox will tell you this, and ask you specifically if the item you're sending is on the list, but most other delivery places won't.

Not much they do cover, I'd expect over 50% of the items they deliver must be on the "prohibited" list, wonder how much they make from people paying extra and then not being able to claim.

But as said above, can't see what your able to do about it unless finding the prohibited item list was really unclear/hidden away somewhere without warning when you signed up.

Exactly, if it was damaged i wouldnt complain, i understand the risk. They lost it!

It states clearly:

Items specified as 'carried on a no-compensation basis' can be carried at your own risk, but will not be compensated whatsoever in the event of loss or damage.

Totally **** for you mind, but not really anything you can do from the looks of it.
