Hello,

As the title would suggest, I need some advice on how to partition for Windows - the main gripe is space. I'm getting a 74GB Raptor and I plan to run both my games and operating system off of this.

I will be using a 320GB Slave to run everything else (applications, music, videos etc...) - so how much space should I leave for Windows?

Secondly, what is the best software for having password-ed folders? I understand that XP Pro doesn't offer this and that I'll have to go 3rd Party - but I don't mind - free or paid for.

Thanks.

xp (and 2000) have ntfs, you can set the permissions on that so only your username can get into them..

I was thinking more so for password protected folders- in terms of having to type a password whilst being on my username.

Can anyone suggest what size to make the Windows partition on a 74GB then?

As explained in the opening post - it will be divided between games and the os.

Everything went well, about 19gb's left (I went with 25GB) and I've installed a good bit of stuff.

However, on start up at the XP screen, the blue bar goes across about 15 times.

That can't be right can it? I'm almost sure my P4 (2.8Ghz) didn't take that long.

Its most likely because you've installed all of the apps to a different drive.

Try running disk defragmenter, tighten everything up a bit, might make access times a bit quicker. Also, what speed is the 320gb? Bearing in mind that the raptor is 10000rpm, if the 320gb is only 5400rpm it will slow things down a lot.

The 320GB is a 7,200rpm.

It's not such a delay that I'm banging my head off the table - but was just wondering if I could speed it up.

Will run DD shortly - thanks once again.
