Pass plus??

Its just a bit more advanced than driving lessons, learing to handle skids etc and control a car on a higher basis than with your driving test. You also do training for driving in bad conditions such as snow and ice. It lowers your insurance a bit too, but i dont know how much by.

I think (if i recall correctly) you have to do motorway, night, and certain weather condition (snow, rain, etc) driving althought some of them you may have already done in your lessons.

But a lot of instructors tend to just sell the filled in pass plus forms on the sly, althought I'd recommend actually doing it as some people buy the form then theyre too scared when it comes to motorways.

edit: i think it lowers your insurance approx 10% on the first year

It's a six hour course which covers:

1) Motorway Driving
2) Dual Carriageway Driving
3) Town Driving
4) Countryside Driving
5) Night Driving
6) Weather Conditions

Discount depends entirely on insurers, knocked 600 quid off my first premium, only worth doing it for that really, didn't teach me anything I hadn't already done.

Worth doing. Initially I did it purely for insurance reasons. However it got me interested in advanced driving, and got me thinking about car control and progressive driving. If you are doing it to improve your skill level I would drive for a bit (3 months or so) and then treated it as a refresher course to build upon your road experience.

I don't think the course is that comprehensive and certainly doesn't warrant the ammount of insurance discount you get, can be as high as 30%, especially when compared to an IAM course; but I think it gets you thinking.

thats kinda what i did, i passed my test then about 10 months later sat my pass plus, cost me £80 to do the course (done on one day) and it reduced my insurance by £200 with directline (crap company i know but were cheapest for me at the time)

Sorry, learning to handle skids?

wtf :/ since when? :p

I was going to say, never heard of the skid thing because two people I know who have done it, skidded into a hedge. :p

Its worth doing for the insurance if you have particularly expensive insurance, its worth doing for the learning if you learn to drive in the remote nothingness of North Scotland.

I personally never did it because I hate driving lessons and had already done everything it proposed to teach.

I got my PP when NUD was offering 50%, so I saved like £900 (minus 4hours lessons cost, its supposed to be 6 but he said I already did all the other parts already, like the bad weather etc)

Teaching learners how NOT to get into a skid, would probably be the better idea!

You still need to teach them what to do when they get into one. People will get into one by mistake so they need know the best course of action.
