So i did this when i was 17 about 2 months after i qualified and was promised it would save me some money on my insurance. I have recently been looking at quotes for insurance and none of them even have an option saying "pass plus yes or no". Do I have to ring and tell them?

THE PASS PLUS COST ME NOTHING BY THE WAY (hehe)

I don't get it

Some companies don't even recognise it, and the best thing is to ring them and ask if they will give you a discount for it.

I didn't do it because the cost of the course compared to saving wasn't worth it imo.

I checked a few insurance companies before I thought about doing it and none of the companies who were reasonable for me seemed to acknowledge it so I didn't bother.

My instructor was very clear on the fact I should check it out first though, as it could be very hit and miss, some of his pupils found they saved £200 others found no difference at all. If you were promised reductions that strikes me as someone misleading you in order to extract a bit more money out of you for more lessons.

I did the course a few years ago, its offered free by the police/fire brigade on the basis that it will reduce the amount of accidents they attend, I know that Ecar and Kwikfit recognise it (or did) and give a discount equal to 1 yr NCB, think it has to have been done in last two years though.

It saved me a bit of money for the rest of my first year of driving, but not a lot. I wouldn't have done it had it not been cheap (I did the Welsh pass pluss deal thing).

From my experience it was pointless, the only companies that honoured it wanted 2.5k-3k, direct line quote 3k and offered a 10% discount when I sent a photocopy of the certificate in. In the end I opted for a classic policy for 1.3k.

Again my pass plus was free so I didn't lose anything by 'doing' it. Read driving instructor is a family friend

I did it and it's saved me quite a bit. Elephant/Admiral/Bell acknowledge it, you have to select it under License Type though.

I've done pass plus aswell and from quotes I've been running for future cars it doesn't seem to make a difference whether I have it or not!

I also got to do it for nothing when I was 25 and I had been driving for about 6 months.

My standards had slipped somewhat and I got told off for "stock car turning" amongst other things.

There are a few insurance companies that will have an option for "Full UK Pass Plus" rather than just "Full UK license" but I can't say I've ever noticed a massive drop in price. Some of them will ask for a certificate number for the Pass Plus, and having done mine 4 years ago, I can't remember where I put the thing....so, keep it somewhere safe.

There is an option to say you did Pass Plus on the Admiral on-line quote, it didn't alter the price much. I gained good experience from it though.
