My council is giving out £50 vouchers for Pass + schemes at the moment, just wondering if its worth doing. I've heard it can bring down the insurance cost quite a bit. Except I am 28 already so it's not going to be at 17 years old teenager rate, and I've done night driving in town and country lanes before and also drove down dual carriage ways in 2 hours lessons.

Would it be worth it ?

And was yours worth it?

Take 20% from your insurance quotes with some people. I found it worth it, saved me like £250, that includes taking the cost of doing it off the savings. Plus that way you will also get some proper motorway tuition.

its probably not worth doing if u have to pay for it. its only good for young drivers insurance wise. might better your driving?

Not all insurance companies except the Pass Plus and much like yourself, the only thing I could have learnt from doing it was motorway driving. So instead, I just went down the M40 for a 100 mile round trip with my missus in the passenger seat and learned from her. I personally couldn't see the point in forking out for it, if you're confident enough (not cocky) then I wouldn't bother.

You'll be due a two page letter from the DSA waffling on about the number of accidents and fatalities due to new drivers not doing the pass plus soon as well.

If you are calling driven down a 100 miles motorway a lesson then i've done miles and miles of those. Been driven to festivals, uni, london (M4, M25, M5) over the years as a passenger. I "think" I know the rules, no undertaking, signals when changing lanes, space between cars, speed, lane discipline.

I might do it for the saving in insurance thou.

I did pass plus about 3 years ago but have never had my own insurance (at university and drive the gfs car occasionally). Would my pass plus still count for something at any insurers?

Eh? No, I meant I was driving and had someone else (experienced driver) sat in the passenger seat telling me what to look out for etc. Motorways aren't nearly as bad as folk make out, you'll understand the blindspot and mirrors a lot better after doing it!

Ah, well, not done that but have done about 60 miles of dual carriage way.

I done it as my dad said he would pay half, just phone round get some quotes see if the cost of pass plus is worth it relative to the drop in insurance with pass plus.

As a general rule, when i worked at Toyota Insurance, pass plus usually works out at about the same as 1 years no claims bonus (between 20 and 35% depending on who you go with). Being 22 when i passed i didnt bother as am in one of the last age brackets for young drivers (17-19,20-22,23-24) so found it didnt make much of a difference when i put it with and without on the quotation system.

Got £1070 TPFT on a Renault Megane 1.6 Sport Alize 5 dr. Was looking at a Ford Focus originally and that would have been 100 quid cheaper on the insurance, but no to worry as only paid £2300 for it at a car auction.

I did pass plus but found it useless insurance wise - It only levers a discount with insurers who were over expensive in the first place. I ended up getting the cheapest quote with one who didn't even want it!

That said - it's a good thing to take in it's own right, but don't do it for the insurance...

I did it, teached my a lot about the motorway, its still a pity that no many drivers know how to drive on the motorway like using the 1st lane instead of staying in the 2nd lane.

 :p

for you i don't think it is worth it financially due to your age.

in terms of experience it may be, but then you can always get your instructor to take you on the motorway for an hour or two and pay half the pass plus fee.

I wouldn't, only useful for younger drivers to bring down insurance costs.
It's not like people actually drive like they were taught, thats just to get you through the test.

You can only do it after you have passed your test.

I know you do it after you've passed your test but its another test kind of thing isn't it.

No you cannot fail pass plus really. I have never heard of anyone ever failing or taking longer than the minimum 6 hours.

Well one driving school that I was with said they wouldn't let people have their certificate if they didn't think they were ready after the 6 hours...but I guess they were just money hungry(which the majority are  )
