Passed my motorbike restricted tests :D

Hey guys,

Passed my MOD2 today, woooo

Had CBT on saturday having never ridden a motorcycle(wish i started earlier, so fun!), had mod1 on wednesday, and mod2 today. Was so happy to pass!

Now to look for a bike...

Been looking at the 600 bandit, but would have to be restricted to 33 bhp hmm..


What were your first bikes?

I have seen a few sv 650s at my uni, look decent!

I deffo want a bigger bike, so probably 600+, was sick of the 125 already and only rode it for a week!

Is the jump still noticeable even though the sv650 was restricted to 33bhp?

I had a restricted 600 bandit, it's a big lump of a machine and wheezy at 33hp, you'd be better getting a lighter 33hp bike and enjoying the ride rather than wondering what full chat would be like.

Plus 33 hp bikes hold their money well, rather than 33hp restricted bigger bikes

I could understand it if your really really wanted a certain bike but the Bandit is nothing special

Yeah i heard they are quite underpowered, even with out a restriction. I also like the look of the ducati monster, but the sv650 looks decent too!

i started on a ninja 250 and now i currently have a gsxr 600 k7 restricted until march.
ninja 250 would be awesome to start on. very good fun to ride and learn new things on

Damn right you notice it I found the first few gears were barely restricted on a twin so it was still damn fast to 60 and up to 80 but then lost top end power which I guess it what they want to restrict so your not doing 130+ everywhere

Haha yeah, well i dont plan on riding like a maniac any way, i just want a noticable difference from the 125!

The good thing about something like a 600 bandit is that whilst you are limited to 33bhp, at low engine speed the restriction is pretty insignificant so you still get the low-mid speed torque advantages of a larger engine. OTOH a smaller engine like a 250 Ninja won't be restricted at all, and you can have fun screaming the knackers of it, since that's the only way to get it moving at a reasonable speed

haha i see, well i deffo want a 600 i think, as the bike will look bigger then a 250 right? which is what i want.

I started on a Honda CBF125 to get me through my tests. Currently on a restricted 2009 ER-6f, until November. It's got plenty of zip for getting around those pesky cages

Probably better off spending some money on tuition and or getting experience rather than jumping on an R6, have you made a will?

Its the look i like any way more than speed etc. I know from couple of friends who have both fallen off their first big bikes that you have to be careful or you will be bitten in the ass.

Any bike i get will be restricted to 33 any way, and aslong as the bike will do 70 comfortably then i am happy!

well done chap! my bike was a cbr600! is it meant to be restricted when you pass your test now? the police and the courts never asked...

and because im under 21, i had to do restricted tests (same as DAS i think), so im restricted to 33bhp for 2 years.

If i had waitied til i was 21 i could do DAS and not be restriced at all!

Congrats i passed last year and im still smiling about it now. I was 24 i passed all the test along with the direct access within 4 months. The day i passed i went out and bought a brand new honda cb600f hornet.

How come you didnt do the direct access and then you wouldnt have to worry about getting it restricted (shudders) or arent you old enough?

I had a restricted SV650S too... though the restrictors may have "fallen out" before the 2 years were up .

hah, yeah i bet a lot of people do this, i just want to be legal about it i think! until i get bored of 33bhp and want more...

To be fair, very few people actually ever restrict their bikes to 33bhp when they've passed their A2. Remember, you dont have to buy the kit from FI International and there is NO legal requirement to have the restriction documented or certified by ANYONE. The only people that may ask for proof is either your insurance company, and the rozzers if you're forced to prove its power on a dyno if your caught doing silly speeds that a 33bhp bke can't produce, at which point it will probably be the least of your worries

Congrats on the pass though, I jumped straight on a 2004 Bandit 600 when I passed, used it to commute 52 miles a day in all weathers, never missed a beat except the odd morning of carb-icing in the cold days

Yeah, i have heard you can buy washers on ebay and stuff to do the restriction. Think i heard the FI kit is rediculously expensive for what it is!

and yeah i know a lot of people probably dont bother restricting their bike, i think i will though just to be legal. hmmm.

i dont plan on riding the bike like an idiot, although i guess we all make mistakes (hopefully not infront of police though).

Congrats! I did my CBT before you but didn't have the bottle (or the confidence for that matter) to do everything at once. Well done for managing to cope with everything so close together.

Like you, I wish I'd started earlier! I'm having a lot of fun on my 125 but think I'm outgrowing it a bit now, so it'll probably be test time for me in the near future.

If you're considering the SV650, you might want to take a look at the GSX650F as well. It's essentially a Bandit with a fairing. I think the riding position is slightly more upright than the SV650. I'm considering these two for my first big bike

I passed my full test ages ago, 1st bike was a fireblade! . I did have some seriously power motorcross bikes beforehand though, Honda CR500 etc
