Hello

This morning I noticed that my PC was not working properly. When I checked the memory it turned out that only one modul A2 detects one of the twin memory chip. The other one A0 reports "non installed". Motehrboard is ASUS A8N Sli-Deluxe

Do you have any idea of what might've happened or what do I have to do to test the current system state?

Any test program that would eventually tell me whether my second chip has gone out (they must have Life Time guarantee).

I have not checked the physical contact of the chip yet (this is what I am going to do after finishing this post off ).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Paul

Edit: I have resolved the issue, the problem was that as you all know the ASUS A8N-Sli Deluxe is not the best solution space-wise. My 1st memory slot crashes with my Arctic Cooler and I cannot practically have a dimm installed in there. I moved the dimms to 2nd and 4th slot and they are now detected by the system. Are there any obvious disadvantages from using 2nd and 4th slots instead of 1st and 3rd (if one does not overclock)?

Another question I am asking myself is whether they have figured out how to resolve the problem with running 4 dimms when using Winchester AMD64 processors. I have Winny 3500 and am considering buying a second pair of 2x512 dimms. I know that they will not run at 200MHz unless they have meanwhile resolved the issue with the memory controller (which they have done with the VENICE core). Any latest BIOS update of ASUS that might've resolved this?

Cheers

Ok 4x512mb is going to run at 2T come what may, either with Venice or Winchester (apart from one DFI board which has been tweaked to get round this). This is a 2-5% performance hit, nothing vast, but its there.

Winchester defaults to 333mhz 2T with 4x512mb, but you can still bump the clock back up again, I had a Winchester running at 500Mhz 2T perfectly stable, so the defaulting to 333mhz is very conservative.

Venice is somewhat better, it will maintain 400mhz 2T with 4x512mb.
