PAYDAY DEALS - PC/PS3/Xbox 360 Games Titles at Deal Prices *** While Stocks Last *** The Perfect Chr

Give the guys a break. They're not based in Jersey (so actually pay their taxes) and they probably haven't got the buying power or guaranteed sales to negotiate the price on a squillion units ..

Even so, as said by a few other people in this very thread, they could have bought them in from elsewhere, put a markup on them, and still sold them cheaper.

Seriosuly, unless you can compete, then you should stay out of the markets IMHO as it massively knocks the credibility and begins to ask questions about how competitive the company really is.

OK, I see your point.

But why should we when they use words like 'only £XX' when talking about price or 'while stocks last' when there's clearly no chance of them selling out before hell freezes over!

OcUK is a professional company which prides itself on being competitive (so they say) When 'offers' like this gets posted it highlights just how uncompetitive then are.

No official response either, which is nice.

So why go into the market in the first place? They should know that most users in the forum shop around for the best price on PC games, especially with the Steam deals threads offering many games for very cheap. They are a hardware shop, so aren't going to be buying software in large enough volumes to get discounts, plus they are going to be competing with the likes of play who, as you say, can skip out on the taxes, allowing them to offer cheaper goods. The only thing OcUK has going for it is the free next-day delivery, which is better than the free 2-3 day delivery, but only assuming you're an active forum member.

OcUK is a great shop for components, but IMO the move into selling games was rather misjudged. There's no way they would be able to hit the same prices as dedicated retailers, so they were just asking for threads like this with people pointing out how bad their deals are compared with pretty much everywhere else.

I dunno .. I just see it as the fact that businesses are supposed to try and evolve and change and expand into other sectors and grow and move forward - software seems the natural way to try and expand because of the potential synergy (what else does OCUK move into to expand?? Bananas? Surfboards? Painting and Decorating? :/ ). I just saw it a a bit of nice old entrepreneurial spirit -- not worth the frothing at the mouth text venom that some people are spitting out ..

Anyway it's not my job to support them so I'm outta here! :)

I totally agree that its good for companies to try and keep things fresh, expanding into new markets and so in. Indeed, OcUK now have their own hardware brands, don't they? I've seen OcUK graphics cards, I know, and that's great.
The problem is simply that in this instance, they've entered a market in which they won't be able to compete unless they can order in enough volume that the price gap is lowered. If OcUK was only slightly more expensive compared to other online retailers, many people on here would use them as they provide free next day delivery, compared to the couple of days from other online retailers. But... they don't. Blizzard themselves are currently selling the WoW games for half the price of OcUK, and while that is a limited time promotion, so are the prices OcUK are selling them for. There's a thread here in PC Gaming that has F3:New Vegas for £10 cheaper, for example.

That said, after a quick search of the two main shops, the SC2 price doesn't seem too bad with the free delivery, which is a step in the right direction :)

You seriously need to rethink your prices if you think these are pay day deals.

Pay day deals as that's the only time you'll have enough money in your account to afford them?

Joking aside, it's a shame that the prices aren't more competitive, as I (along with a lot of others I suspect) have a lot of loyalty to OcUK, and just as I don't mind paying a couple of quid more for a computer part to get it from OcUK (assuming that OcUK isn't already cheaper), I wouldn't object to paying a quid or two more to get games from them as well. Unfortunately a lot of the prices here just aren't competitive enough. Whether that's because they're out of touch with the market (doubtful) or whether they don't buy in a big enough bulk to offer much lower prices (much more likely) is irrelevant to us as consumers. We all want to get our stuff as cheap as we can, so these deals will need to be a lot more special before I consider buying them.

If OcUK wanted to increase their sales of games, they could easily manage it as well, by doing some kind of offer relating to hardware. Buy a graphics card over £150 and get £10 off a game of your choice, that kind of thing. That'd certainly help offset their higher prices and increase the amount of software they'd sell.

If they can not compete then dont try, I find it mildly insulting that these people are trying to tell me that £10 more for new Vegas and Double Blizzards official price is 'OMFG WOW BUY IT QUICK' when infact it's a rip off.

Well, if you weren't selling to a place where every single reader knows those prices to be above average I'd say it was worth a shot :p.
