pc affecting new tv - help diagnose please

hi,

I just bought a panasonic plasma today and have had it set up and working for 5/6 hours now with no problem.

I then got a bit bored of tv, and went to play counter strike. However when I turned on my gaming PC my plasma started ticking / buzzing at the wall socket. I turned off the PC and it stopped.

My PC has been ticking for over a year now (enermax noisetaker (noisemaker would be a better fit!)) but I have ignored it - planning on sending it back tomorrow, if its still in warranty.

I have checked the power cable from the TV and the cable from my PC - replacing both doesnt solve the problem.

When the PC is on, turning the tv onto standby doesnt fix the buzz. Unplugging all the wires except power doesnt fix the buzz. Unplugging from the wall does fix the buzz.

I have two other PCs sat right next to my gaming PC (two run of the mill, slightly old Dell boxes) but my gaming PC is custom built but not overclocked. I have both dell's on right now and there is no interference on the TV at all.

I dont have a spare power supply juicey enough to test my gaming rig at the moment, but from what I have described, do you think replacing the PSU will solve me problem?

If not, what are the alternatives? I dont want to have to give up the TV!

Try enabling "spread spectrum"?

You should find it in the BIOS on your PC. I don't think it will have much effect though.

Check all the earths in your PC for security.

Also get a qualified electrician to check the earths in the sockets.

I'd try running an extension from another house circuit to the plasma (or the PC) and seeing if it cures it as a first cheap and easy check. I don't quite understand what you mean by buzzing at the socket itself though. Noise coming through to the plasma and causing picture or sound interference is one thing, but noise from the socket and plug itself seems like a good reason to get someone qualified in to have a look.
