PC and Console fan boys, Whats the deal ?

I've had the privilege to sample both sides of gaming and to be honest I would side with console gaming for the sheer convenience factor, but this is simply my opinion. At the very same time I appreciate the benefits to PC gaming too.

As for the arguments it creates, well, I find anyone who knocks or tries to belittle someone else’s brand choice to be small minded and petty. It’s a childish response as far as I’m concerned.

I favour BMWs over Mercs, Sony over Microsoft and iOS over Android but I’ll be damned if I don’t give the others a fair shot and appreciate their qualities. I love to sample all different types of technology and the notion of pigeon holing myself with one brand would be very narrow minded of me. It would also ultimately mean I don’t get to enjoy different tech advancements etc until they eventually release on my chosen platform.

As for the OP, your very first line feels like you’re trying to start an argument.

I do think with most things these days the technology is so very similar that it is difficult on a technical level to say x is better than y.

However with PC versus console it is undeniable that PCs are technically superior in every way. To try and pretend otherwise is also small minded.

Now, when we talk in terms of personal preference does that technical superiority count for too much? Probably not. As you have mentioned we buy products we feel suit our needs and our lifestyle. I own a console and a gaming PC as do many other people. In terms of which is a better overall gaming experience that is purely subjective so there is no right or wrong answer. But it is completely wrong to suggest that a console is even in the same ball park as a good gaming PC when it comes to performance and technical capabilities. Anyone even trying to do so shows how ignorant they are of the facts.

Really? Which one of the manufacturers hyped up their ability to be 4K?

Console gamers have been shafted? How exactly? I think you need to wake up and smell the fanboy **** your shoveling.

Would you demonstrate (with components from OcUK if you wish) a PC build for £349.99, not including a monitor as we wont involve TV prices for the console, that would pull much better numbers than the PS4, don't skimp on an OS either.

I think you need to calm down.
I am not a fanboy, I owned all last gen consoles, plus a wii u and I will pick up a Ps4 for Bloodbourne alone. So you can hardly call me a fanboy :p

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Marketing and Strategy stated back in May that "There's no hardware restriction" when it comes to 4K gaming on the Xbox One.

they were shoving this **** down peoples throats at the same time they were talking about their amazing cloud tech - all the evidence is out there.

I had most of the consoles up until (and including) PS2/Gamecube/Dreamcast/Xbox. Once I bought a PC I gave up on them simple because I got into fps which is undoubtedly better on PC.

I think they're very different beasts really, both great in different ways, I'd still get a nintendo for Mario Kart or Zelda, I just don't have the time to play them AND the pc.

A lot of it boils down to cost and jealousy. I try to realise that I may feel that way when faced with certain situations in my life and instead of going down the immediate route of knocking someone, I look for all the positives in their decision and appreciate how, why and what they bought it for.

The old, I'm not a fanboy because.....argument, nice. :)

They weren't shoving it down peoples throat though, they did say it, I'm not denying that, but you claimed they were shouting about it when they weren't, and Sony have said the PS4 wont do 4K games.

How you getting on with the PC build?

It's comments such as this that spark the nauseating debates.

So the fact that I will eventually own all the consoles + pc at some point in their life span somehow makes me a fanboy of one particular one even though I couldnt give two ***** which eco system wins or loses?
Just wow....

Well your original post certainly painted you that colour, I can't help it if that's the impression you gave.

I see the thread has descended into the inevitable fanboy war

No, I think it is that people cannot see the difference between something being technically superior and personal choice.

To clarify, I think next gen consoles are fantastic bits of kit for the money. But the fact is they are technically inferior to a high spec gaming PC. Recognising that fact does not make me a fanboi, it is simple numbers.

I choose to play on a PC because I like the versatility and performance. I also like building them and tinkering. I don't really care if others choose a PC or console. I own and can see the benefits of both. I have always said that as long as we are all gaming and having fun it makes no difference what we use to play games.

However, for any person to try and make out that consoles are technically anywhere near the performance of a gaming PC is simply incorrect. That does not mean that a gaming PC is better for gaming because each person has their own preferences. But on a technical level consoles are always behind. But - they may be more practical. They take up less space, can be used on a TV, can be easier played with friends in a social situation etc etc. But they are just not as technically advanced as a gaming PC.

Think about cars. An F1 car is the pinnacle of technology. Its a powerhouse capable of extreme performance. Would you want an F1 car to drive around london city centre? Probably not. A smart car would probably be better suited to your needs. But that does not change the fact that the F1 car is faster and contains more up to date technology.

Well, good for you.

Truth is truth. Granted, my PC was expensive to build. But none of the next gen consoles come anywhere close to the performance capabilities of my PC. That is simple truth.

If you disagree, please show how I am factually wrong.

Don't be an arse.

Of course I don't disagree. It's an element where the PC obviously surpasses the console.

One day I'd like to have a small desktop gaming PC in the living room hooked up to an Xbox One controller to enjoy the best of both worlds but there are a few issues, such as games like Forza, The Last of Us, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Zelda et al that do not appear on the PC.

It's all a compromise. I personally prefer buying a system for £x amount and knowing for the next 7 years it'll play any game you throw at it from that platform.

But the idea of having a PC as a gaming rig is also very appealing. My spare coins are just simply not spent that way.

I still go back to the point that the little digs that are thrown back and forth are what spark debates. Both sides are as bad as each other.

Always makes me chuckle when people now say they are technically inferior to a gaming PC, well yes, a £350 console is not going to match the performance of a £1,500 PC, just like a Toyota Yaris is not going to match a Bugatti for performance.

It's the people who totally dismiss consoles I am amazed by, they've had some of the best games ever created, yet because they are on a console they are instantly dismissed.
