Right this is not easy to type as having to do it through my PS3.

I was on my PC last night, browsing this very web site when I got a pop up box saying, "one of your USB devices has stopped working" Then the computer frooze. I turned it off and did a reser and nothing. Some of my fans light up but nothing.

Then i saw some smoke coming from the back of my PSU (HYPER PSU)

I realise my psu is now dead, but whats the chance it HAS NOT damaged any other components ?

This psu is about 4-5 years old and I have never had a psu die on me before. I just pray to god nothing else has been damaged.

What do you guys think?

More expense!!

I'm guessing you had the Hiper Type-R Modular 580w?

I know a lot of people went for that psu as it was relatively cheap, decent wattage and it was modular, I think it was the very first Modular psu(correct me if I'm wrong)But... Many, many people's have either gone bang, started pouring black smoke, or the fan has died. I myself experienced that, and I had mine since it came out(blew up on Friday, was testing it in another rig and KABOOM!)

right just got a new psu and connected it. as soon as i turn the psu switch on, on the actual psu the pc starts. but NOTHING shown on screen. the computers HD activety light is constantly lit and on.

mobo is a as rock dual sata. i cant be doing with this at moment i have so much on and i need my pc.

please what should i do or check now?

Really need some advice here guys. Borrowe a friends laptop for the evening to keep me on line and see if we can get to the bottom of this. Otherwise. god knows. Already spent 55 pounds on a new PSU which hasn't cured it.

I have disconnected everything. No memory in, no cpu 'cooler' in, no gfx card nothing connected except mobo and cpu ( all optical and HD are disconnected) and as soon as I flick the psu switch the computer starts up (I can tell as fans come on) and that is without touching the power switch on the front of the computer. But have also tried resetting CMOS to no avail.

Have tried a AGP as well as my own PCI-E Graphics card and still nothing on screen. In fact my monitor (samsung) green light just flashes as though it's not getting a singlal.

Ok so it maybe the mobo. Could it have taken my CPU with it as well (opteron 146)

or do you think I should just 'somehow' from god knows where just get another mobo suitable for my memory and cpu and all SHOULD be ok (touch wood) ?

PS: is there any way of looking at the mobo and seeing the damage or wont it be visible damage ?
