I bought a Kingston 2GB SD card about 4-6 weeks ago to use on my DVD player to play DivX files on it.

It worked fine up until yesterday when I took it out of the DVD player and put it in my PC to put some different files on.

My PC then said the card needed formatting so I tried to format it but it said it couldn't, so I tried again several times & it came uup with the same message. I then put it back into my DVD player and tried to read off it & it said 'bad disk'.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Cheers

If it wont format it , try a forced format.

Go to the start menu > Run Box > type CMD to bring up the command prompt

In the prompt , type format X: ( where X is the cards drive letter )

If there is an issue with formatting it will ask if you want to Dismount the drive to contiune, say yes and it should format it.

Just make sure you put the right drive letter in the prompt, command prompt takes no prisioners :)

I tried what you said & it came up with:-

"The type of file system is RAW, Please use the /FS switch to specify the file system you wish to use on this volume"

Any ideas?

Most likely it'll be FAT, FAT16 (think this is same as FAT just 16 isnt present), or perhaps FAT32.

Google the command you have so far along with the switch reference, might be quicker then waiting for a reply..... ;)

I wouldn't format it in Fat32 unless it was soley PC use due to a lot of SD drives only read FAT/FAT16 in other devices as that part of the specification and things like a camera will reliase thats there is a SD card there but in a unknown setup. So it will ask you to format it. And also you haven't clicked the little latch to lock the data.

Did what you said & tried to format it in FAT & its come back with the message "Invalid Media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable"

Is there anything that can save my sd card? I've only had it a few weeks!

Perhaps the flash chip inside has actually failed, perhaps return it to the shop and get a warrenty replacement?
