I know we’re talking pennies here but as someone relatively time short for gaming, is it necessary to play the first game before number 2?

I’m doing the same with Metro.. recently upgraded my rig and was halfway through Last Light Redux — now just want it to be over so I can enjoy Exodus graphics :p

Edit: only interested in single player too

Not necessary, no.

However there's something about the first Division with it's snow covered streets that is really appealing. While the Division 2 is great and looks great, that snowy atmosphere and the difference in how civilians are depicted is entirely lacking.

I say this as someone that skipped straight to 2 and has many hours in it.
I've played 1 since and I wish I had played it sooner.

I can't say the same for the Metro series. I also tried going through them in order and found myself wanting to get to the newest one. In the end I dropped the series entirely.

Exodus is fine to be played without the other 2. I played half of it IIRC. It gives a summary of the first 2 games in about a sentence 'you were right (whatever he's called) it was safe to come out'

I got stuck in the Library in the first game when I ran out of Amo too.

To be fair I'm now on chapter 20 of 31 so I may as well get it done. I quite enjoy the story/lore of it all, I'm just a wuss when it comes to dark sewer tunnels and monsters growling in the background :p Get me out above ground please!

Now this is very very tempting, but do I have the time to play them :D
