Hey Guys, my PC screen went dull as tho the gamma brightness and contrast has been turned down, with horizontal lines across the top and bottom of the screen. Apart from the visual issue the computer seems to be running as normal, the problem seems to occur randomly it will all look fine when turned on and then randomly go weird, if i restart straight away it stays weird, if i wait a while it seems to load up fine then after a random amount of time it goes funny again.

What i have done so far..

- Tried another monitor
- Tried it without the graphics card
- Changed the RAM
- Rebooted to factory settings
- Adjusted the refresh rates, resolution, color properties.
- checked all connections
- cleaned all components and checked for visual dammage

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Tig.

The Specs:
Nvidia 6800GS 256mb PCIE
P4 2.93Ghz
1.5mb RAM PC3200

Temperatures at BIOS:
Processor Zone Temp: 52c
System Zone 1 Temp: 34c

So heat is clearly triggering factor.

How long it takes for problem to appear?
Do tests with other monitor and different graphic cards and every time wait that time.

Definitely sounds like heat is your problem. Try a different card or look to see if the fan on your current one is playing up at all.

Thanks for your replies,
This problem occurs even without a graphics card installed. Besides, I don't have any spare graphics cards to test with.

The amount of time the problem takes to occur differs which is why I didn't think it was overheating; it can happen after two minutes, or an hour or after three hours, for instance I was playing a game for two hours yesterday before the problem occurred whereas it also happens while the computer is doing nothing graphically taxing at all. It appears completely random.

Also other than the image issue the game and the computer continued to run fine.

EDIT: Just a note, the computer in my sig is not the PC in question.

So your using onboard graphics now or?

What about the graphics card in the spec in your sig?

The error occurs with both onboard graphics and when my graphics card is installed. It is currently installed.

I forgot to mention this is Tigjaw's brother; He's allowing me to use this account to post this problem..
