Hey guys I just recently turned my pc off....what a mistake that was

I have an Asus P5B motherboard. When I switched it back on the fans would all go loud but not actually boot.

I went through the process of fault finding and found if I have 3 gig/4 gig it will switch on...no beeps but wont boot.

If i have 2 gig I can boot and am writing to you now...

What could possibly be wrong? I have checked memory its fine... has the motherboard gone?

Please help:o

can u acess the bios?

i know vista has a issue with over 2gb if you have vista maybe you corrupted that 2gb patch if not have you tried each stick indivually to test all the ram?

Are you pumping enough volts through the RAM? Maybe you have enough power for 2 gig but not 4. The default RAM voltage on my MB is 1.8. but my RAM is rated at 2.1

try increasing the northbridge (mch) voltage slightly. My system fails to boot half the time without this and thats with a 2x2gig kit! My motherboard is a gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l. have used 2gig kits before

^ What he said. You'll find over time power supplies slowly degrade, where as before it had just enough juice to get 4Gb working, its now just under the level required. Check what Voltage your RAM is rated for, and up the level in your BIOS whilst staying in the safe range specified. Its a common problem so don't worry.

PK!

wow thanks for the input guys! :)

and here I am running memtest on each stick :/

I went into the northbridge controller what setting do I need to increase please? its been a long time since I delved into these things :o

Hope you can help

Ta

Try the lowest voltage it runs at, if it wont run bump it up a notch. No point wasting lectricity for the hell of it now is there.
