Hey all i need some of your expert advice. I am not a huge movie buff but my gf is, shes moving in with me soon so i figured it be cool to get some sort of blu ray set up. It be kinda like a present for me and her.

My current set is up a 28 inch hanns-g monitor which i bought from ocuk as well as set of Logitech Z-5500 speakers.

As i said i'm not a huge movie buff so getting a stand alone player is a bit out the qestion , what would be the best option for me to go with my monitor and speakers.

My first option is getting a new sound card and blu ray drive for my pc, but i have no clue which sound card/drive would be best for me. The sound card would also be used for gaming and music.

My 2nd option is getting a ps3 (which i would use for games to) but i have no clue on the sound or play vacj qauilty on the ps3 or if i can hook my speakers up to it.

i have about 250 pounds to spend you advice is greatly needed cause i cant make my mind up.

I've used both the PS3 and blu-ray setup on my PC. For the PC I had the asus xonar DX and LG blu-ray drive. Both worked perfectly, great picture and sound produced. The only thing I would do is buy additional software, the bundled software with the drives is limited to 2 channels, so won't give you true surround sound. I recommend getting OCUK's blu ray drive (Should do the same job as most of the other expensive drives), the xonar D1 (Same as the DX but doesn't require additional power from the PSU). Both will cost around £100-£110 and the software will be around £80 (I only used cyberlink powerdvd, so can't comment on others).

The PS3 is obviously easier to setup and use, but will cost more and it will depend on your speakers for the sound quality. This is what I use now, but I've got an external AV unit setup for my speakers, which gives me the choice of dolby or DTS surround sound. The picture quality from the PS3 is pretty much the same as any other standalone player. This will also give you the chance to play some of the great exclusive games on the PS3 as well ;)

Yeah the ps3 with the blu ray player is hard to resist, esspecily with the games i wont get on pc like gt5 and a good fifa game. The ps3 has optical out apperanty so should work good with my speakers. Plus with the ps3 i get a game of my choice and a blu ray of my choice
