just wondering if its possible to make google earth store any location that i have looked at already, rather then have it need to download the information all over again once you shut it down?

As far as I'm aware all you can do is ramp up the disk cache but I think that has a 4Gb limit, I've no idea how much high res data this would equate to.

Yep, there is an options page within Google Earth that allows the user to set a local cache of data.
