Not sure if this is the right thread but here goes!

Ok so I was thinking would it be possible to link my PC which is in my study, to the my LCD TV directly underneath the study in our lounge downstairs.

Is there anyway to do it? DVI wireless sender of some kind? Or ethernet perhaps? (Currently have ethernet running from my pc down to the lcd tv since its connected to the PS3).

Any advice appreciated!

Sadly there's no way to connect a PC to any display device(monitor/tv) via wireless or ethernet.

You still need to connect your graphics card physically to the device you want to output your images to.
Therefore you'd have to run a DVI/HDMI cable from the graphics card to the LCD TV.

Can I run DVI/HDMI more of around 5 meters or so?

Also I have seen there are these DVI to Ethernet adaptors.. any good?

Yes there are

Even a quick Google would have shown this.

There's a company called Addlogix that have many solutions for this, including boxes capable of sending audio and video through CAT5 ethernet.

You can find Wireless VGA/DVI transmitters as well.

The only problems I'd imagine you'd have with these would be a) Cost - as the majority are quite expensive. and b) resolution - a quick scan around some transmitters seems to only go up to 1024*768

Addlogix are actually producing a HD transmitter at the moment, but it doesn't seem to be available yet.

There is a GigaVideo 800 wireless HDMI transmitter/receiver available... but it comes at the pricely sum of £400. But it does do Full 1080P HD. From memory it'll cover around 10m or so depending on wall thickness etc.

I've looked into these things a few times, but I've always just gone with the... "Extra long HDMI/DVI/VGA cable" route as it just seems to end up cheaper.

There certainly are things out there that will do the job you want though mate :)

Nice one fella. Thanks for the feedback.

The extra long HDMI cable is a possibility.

Let me paint the picture.

PC upstairs in study, LCD downstairs in lounge. Wife busy studying. Me killing some noobs online at MW2 :D Cue wife getting irritated.

So I thought why not output on the LCD TV downstairs. Could get myself wireless keyboard/mouse and play some downstairs.
Problem is the sound. How would I transmit sound down to the screen downstairs since its only HDMI from the graphics card.

DVI is only recommended up to 5 metres before you start to see any loss.
If it's much further than 5 metres, get an HDMI cable and use DVI to HDMI adapters on the ends if your gfx card and tv dont have HDMI connectors.
As for those DVI to Ethernet adapters a good friend of mine wasted well over £100 before he found out they werent actually good enough to push a DVI signal nearly 10 metres.
He resorted to a 10 metre HDMI cable with DVI to HDMI adapters and it works fine.

Sounds like the way to go then.

Whatabout sound though?

Cheapest/easiest way is to do it via the 3.5mm mini-jacks on the tv as you are only outputting stereo via the tv speakers any way.

Failing that do you have a hi-fi with an amp near the tv?
If so make up/buy a cable from your soundcard/onboard sound to the amp and output it from there.

Failing those,I cant think of much else to keep it cheap.

Not wanting to put a downer on this, but you're also going to have to run the mouse/keyboard down as well. I doubt wireless will have the range for it to work in the lounge if the receiver was upstairs :(
