PC won't start

My folks PC seems to have given up the ghost and upon starting it takes ages to go through the POST but then I get a message about not properly finding a boot drive or something.

I guessed HDD problems so I stuck it in an enclosure and loaded to my windows box. The drive only appears up in disk management but the status is not initialised. Is this likely to be a drive knackered or should I be able to fix it my looking towards MBR issues? I put the drive into my own PC and it doesn't appear to even show in BIOS.

Any suggestions? Lovely way to spend easter weekend.

You could try a MBR repair by going into command promt on boot and typing

"fixmbr" with the "" marks and that will sort out the MBR repair.

But i have a feeling that if the disk is no initiated and stuff then chance's are its on its
way out and you will need a new HDD

How can I get into the cmd prompt on boot? I will give that a try. Could it possibly be the sata connector on the drive? No other types of connector I can try?

I tried some of the MBR tools on Ultimate Boot CD but it won't even detect a drive.

The rule of thumb, if it doesn't show in bios it's goosed

New hard drive time, unless your current one is still in warranty.

I'm just going to run it through the warranty checker now - not showing anything in BIOS. Very annoying. Maybe a necessary lesson to teach my folks to do backups like I always told them.
