I've done a fresh install of XP, i've left my PC on to download some files whilst i went out, i found the above program has installed itself and i can't get rid of it!

I constantly get a prompt that my 'PC is infected', i've gone to the program files directory where the program is supposed to be installed i.e. 'C:\progam files\PC_Antispyware\PC_Antispyware2010.exe /hide' but there is no sign of it, it's even changed my home page to Google!

What do you guys suggest?

Do a system restore much easier than trying to get rid of things like that!

Actually I just wonder, what version of XP did you install?
Did you run a full windows update?
If you used an early XP and didn't patch it, then you'd be best reinstalling and fixing the installation. It will be so utterly full of security holes.

Superantispyware with full update/full scan
malwarebytes with full update/full scan
Avira full update/full scan

Been using this combo for past 2 years and works very effective against viruses/spyware/malware and whatever infects a pc and causes headaches.

If you didn't visit any dodgy sites, I'm guessing that the install of XP was a long way behind in security updates. I'd just wipe the HD again, and make sure SP3 is installed before the machine gets internet access. Then install all the security updates before doing anything else.

(Or just install a more modern OS.)

My suggested way would be too:

Install/Update/Run Malwarebytes Anti Malware
Install/Update/Run Super Anti Spyware
Install/Update/Run Avira AntiVir

Then run cleanup apps like CCleaner and use MSConfig to clear uneeded startup entries and services.

Neil

Thanks to all you guys for your advice, i'm using XP with SP3 but this little b*gger still crept in!:D

This proggie stops you installing spyware ect to prevent you killing it off....However i have a dual boot system so i'm in the process of running Malwarebytes' anti malware, if this fails to pick it up i've got Avira and Super anti spyware waiting in the wings.;)

And as a last resort i'll maybe re-install XP or Vista.

Thanks again guys, your advice is always appreciated.:)
