PCIe question, sorry if it's silly. Thanks

I have an old PCIe x4 WinTV card that I would like to install in my new system (mobo: Asus P8Z77-V PRO). I was thinking of putting this in the 2nd PCIe x16 slot. I have a single GTX 670 in slot 1, however, will inserting the TV card into slot 2 cause my graphics card to run slower?

I have read that when using SLI/crossfire both cards run at 8x speed rather than 16x speed for single card. So I was wondering if this applies if other PCIe cards are installed?

Sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks

ok, thanks guys. Just looked at the mobo specs:

2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8) *3
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black)
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 *4
2 x PCI

Could I use one of these other slots and not impact performace? i.e. are they on diff. lanes maybe?

You can install it into the x16 that runs at x4 (should be the third one down). Shouldn't affect anything. As it says, it should be a/the black one.

Using the black x16 slot (x4 speed) will leave the first x16 PCI-E slot at x16 speed but it will affect other things if used at x4 speed.

Guys, this is getting tricky, the card looks like it will fit into one of those really short slots, PCIe x1 are they? I thought it was a PCIe x8 card. The model is Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1200. Anyway, I just would like my number 1 slot to stay at x16 speed.

Using the black x16 slot (x4 speed) will leave the first x16 PCI-E slot at x16 speed but it will affect other things if used at x4 speed.

What other things could be affected? Oh yes, sorry, just seen the text in the image. Wonder if I should just leave this out as performance is important to me.

PS, Just looked at the card more carefully and it must be a PCIe x1 as the connector is exactly the same size as the PCIe x1 slots.

Cool, thanks Surveyor.

Will that leave my GTX 670 at x16 speed? Also, what will be impacted by it being there?

Thanks for looking into this for me.

Thanks for the help all of you.
