Is there a simple way to find out if you held a pension while working for a company?

I worked for two different companies years ago and I honestly can't remember if I had pensions with them.

If I did i'm considering consolidating them into one fund for simplicity (while spreading it at the same time).

Slightly OT is there any good articles about pensions, how much I should be saving, how to save it etc?

I'd also be interested in reading these.

Also - I just found out what my current pension amount is. How do I find out if it is 'good' for my age. Kinda difficult without revealing the sum I guess.....

My company has just ditched our Final Salary pension, apparently the £500 million hole was too big to fill.

Im not too fussed, i had 10 years in the current scheme, and the new scheme is pretty good, for the 1st five years the company will put double what i put into it, considering im only 30, i have plenty of time to make my pot a bloody good one:p

there is a government organisation that can trace pensions, not got time to look at moment but will do later

yeh My statement just came through 1k LOL, not bad seeing as I haven't put anything in it and it's only 2 years old. I think I need to start adding to it though.
