People who don't move over when you indicate to move out on a Motorway

Lorries when they take about five miles to overtake on a dual carriageway and there six million cars behind them. Particularly when its two lorries from the same firm playing games and don't give a damn about the congestion they are causing!

So what's the point of this rant then? It is not exactly the end of the world, is it?

Personally I think jamming on your indicators and expecting somebody to suddenly jump out of your way because you want to change lane is terribly arrogant, but that's just me :).

Personally I think good drivers see the junction with a car on the slip-road ahead of time and move to lane 2 in anticipation.

Even more personally I think really good drivers in lane 2 see the junction with a car on the slip road and a car in lane 1 ahead of time and move to lane 3 in anticipation of the good driver in lane 1 can moving to lane 2 in anticipation.

It's not terribly arrogant to want other drivers to be paying attention while driving.

Quite.

The fact Joshy thinks that only 'arrogant' people would expect somebody to do this says rather more about his poor driving than it does about the arrogance of those of us who think its the way things should work :) I can only assume he doesnt use Motorways very often :p

Perhaps when they see a BMW indicating they think something must clearly be faulty so would rather get past rather than let you out :p

i admit i giggled at that one. :D

There is the worlds most simple roundabout ( traffic circle ) in Portsmouth, Still i'd say 2 out of 3 visits to it, someones either hit someone or i get cut up by clueless yanks. One guy even stopped while going round to wait for traffic to join. This is it, if your coming off at the next exit, you don't even have to enter it.

ohh and anyone with a Massachusetts plate, as they like to sit 2 feet off your bumper when your doing 70.

It's about awareness more than anything,
I undertook a golf the other day, as they were just plodding along in the middle lane on a fairly good empty motorway.. I don't even think they saw me comming up.

What really gets me is when people don't check their mirrors, i had a recent occasion when I was tanking down the outside lane at a decent pace, and someone decided they would blip the indicator and pull out right in front of me to pass a lorry and a slow car, there is no excuse for that. I saw it coming,
So there was no drama, but it's just very lazy and selfish driving.

Can I also add people who pull out dangerously close infront of you and then proceed to drive slower than the speed limit once on the road.

THIS! OH MY GOD THIS!

I get serious rage when someone does this. "Why the **** did you risk an accident pulling out in front of me, only to then drive slower than me and hold me up!!"

Quite Mr Fox, it kills my Pig big time.

I pull out into lane 2 in my 44tonner, all 53ft of it, so some poor driver can join, numb nuts in his car refuses to do the same, I'll even give them a "flash out" to drop the hint, alas, car in gear, brain in neutral.....

Empathy!

Perhaps when they see a BMW indicating they think something must clearly be faulty so would rather get past rather than let you out :p

Ignore them anyway - a flashing indicator means it is on, sod all else..... ;)

Just to add, i always pull over into lane 2 at junctions if some one is joining and conditions allow, it's just common decency.

That said, if conditions don't allow, then people joining the road need to observe, and adjust speed accordingly.

My one and only massive road rage incident was when I was pulling onto the M6 and some utter moron in a 4x4 pulling a caravan decided that as I was joining from the slip road was the perfect time to pull over from the middle lane into the left hand lane thus forcing me onto the hard shoulder to avoid hitting him.

People who don't move over when the lane beside them is clear and you are indicating to change lanes or join the Motorway.

Can we have them all killed or something?

You're doing it wrong.

Accelerate briskly down the slip road, slot your vehicle into any available gap in traffic (don't worry if it looks too small, it'll fit ;) ). Remember, the rear of your car should be close enough that your exhaust fumes bubble the paint of the cars bumper behind you. Quick touch of the brake pedal to check the brake lights work (the car driver behind will love this, they often wave to show their appreciation) before you scythe your way across to the big boys lane :D

How about reading the road, anticipating what is about to happen, showing a little common sense, keeping traffic freely moving?

Where is the arrogance in expecting/asking people to drive courteously?

Seems quite a little agressive to me, but I see your point, if you are joining a major road from a slip, you need to observe the traffic and join at a suitable pace.

Some people seem to have a generic speed, which I think is quite dangerous.

Misread the thread, but it becomes irrelevant if your car us quick enough.

^^This. Works on bikes too. A bit of fun can be had when Mr Arrogant in the inside lane sees you on the bike joining the M-way from the slip road but can't be bothered to move over. Accelerate quickly and maintain your speed alongside him until you are nearing the end of the slip road. Then give it loads of throttle and go from slow to silly speed in a second or two, surging ahead of him and joining the M-way in front of him whilst filling his face with the sweet thunder of a v-twin superbike's 60mm open race cans.

Priceless.*

*For an even more satisfying effect, weather and road conditions permitting, hoik the front wheel a foot or two in the air, off the throttle, as you pass him. :p

I get this when I am going to/from work. I am in no hurry and generally sit in the left-most lane of a dual carrigeway or motorway with the cruise control on at circa 55MPH (the other lanes don't go that much faster anyway and it saves all the braking/accelerating crap).

I approach a sliproad and, most of the time, people look and either accelerate beyond my speed and pull out in front of me or slow down and pull in behind. The people that irritate me are the people that seem to come up beside me and MATCH my speed then look at me as if I am in the wrong because I have either:

a) not pulled into the next lane to my right
b) not accelerated to let them pull in behind
c) not braked to allow them in front of me

Now, excuse me, but 55MPH is not an horrendous speed to try and compensate for and, as I have the cruise control on, I am maintaining my speed yet they seem to be unable to change their own speed to compensate.

Bear in mind, this happens often when I have a car to my immediate right and cannot pull over.

When you join any road from a slip road, it is up to the joining driver to alter their speed in order to enter the "main road" at an appropriate time and position to maintain flow of traffic on the "main road" and not just jump in anywhere they damn well please. After all that is what a slip road is designed for - to allow time for the joining vehicle to get up to speed and locate an appropriate place to merge and this means observing the traffic as soon as you can see the traffic NOT in the last 10 feet of slip road.
