I was listening to radio 2 yesterday and it was talking something about google and privacy , there was a point where they said about people having unsecured networks.

Now when i turn on my laptop i get at least 3 wireless signals that are unsecured , so many people complain about there privacy and online safety yet there are stupid people out there that have no security:confused:

this may be a pointless topic but i just find it silly that people do this, its not exactly rocket science?

Mine has none also, unless your parked in the drive there is no way you can use it.

Neighbours are too far away.

Depends what is in range of it, i dont secure my network as there is nothing which would be in range of it anyway.

Make sure you have WPA encryption

Mac filtering/ WEP encryption will only keep your neighbours from using your internet.

And people arent really fussed about stealing your details, they will just use your internet. Generally you drive around in a car, find a network, get in, commit credit card fraud. Rinse+repeat.

Mine has no encryption at the moment. It's MAC filtered, but that is all.

One presumes you have turned off SSID broadcast?

Used to be loads round here unencrypted but that seems to have changed...

Bothe of mine are WPA2, with MAC filtering. Could be cracked but my porn collection is rubbish anyway.

Nothing in range of mine either, but I still secure it out of principle. With a password of

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1

:D

hiding SSID = no protection at all.
MAC filtering = very little protection, no protection at all if your network's already been intruded in the past
WEP = no protection at all
WPA2 AES = excellent protection assuming you use a key of sufficient length and complexity. with WPA2 there is no need to use any of the other listed "protection" methods.

My network is secured even tho i dont think anybody is close enough to connect to it.
Even if they were, i am IT support for all my neighbours anyway so i dont think there is too much to worry about :p

Don't see so many unsecured ones as there used to be, as ISPs tend to send out wireless routers to customers a lot more now & they are secured already.
