Peoples workplace IT systems...

We still have 1 server running windows 2000 and a few desktops running windows 98! They are hardly ever used and mainly for scanning so work fine. The 2k server is being scrapped soon

We look after a company that used 10 year old servers running S2K! The servers were getting a bit flaky and were struggling under the use they wanted for them (1 was a TS server looking after about 25 users all running a DB app!) It had two CPUs in it and they were maxed out constantly.. I once had to phone up MS to reactivate some CALs with it and the guy at MS laughed when I told him I was using S2K! The company finally gave in over christmas though and let us put in some shiny new S2K8 machines.. They didn't know what hit them and I haven't had a call out there for server problems for half a year now! :)

I also went to look around a new client at sometime last year. They were running some ancient version of Novel on a 486 server! They were reluctant to spend money on new systems but wanted to update their old server. It was also the same place where they complained that one of the computers kept dropping off the network. I found this..

I also did a contract at the Jaguar plant in Liverpool a few years ago where I was updating the old PCs. Everyone was still on Windows 98! Some of the machines were in an awful state..

Despite a long history with Netware (2.12 onwards), I was responsible for hoofing it out the door following the release of Win2k & Active Directory close to a decade ago. Back in the day it was a fantastic server OS though. Loved the pre-NDS stuff - Netware 3.11 was great.

Come to think of it, I also dragged all the Apple kit out of the sticky fingers of our architects and killed off our Sun boxes. We're now a completely MS org (600+ servers), Bill G ought have been giving me kickbacks ;)
