Person threatened they will report mate to tax man

He's unlikely to hit the limit.

I did when I was 16 through a combination of Google Adsense, paid blogging, and an 8 hour a week shop job. I miss being paid to write :(

[..]
Hes taken to doing a little 'pocket money' run by doing up some fliers and putting them through doors in a few of the streets around him, just general repairs etc... His neighbour is retired with nothing to do, about 80 or so and just grumpy as hell. Hes told him that he'll be reported for dodging tax etc.. What are the implications here if any?

If he's making more than £8,105 a year "pocket money" doing odd jobs at the age of 15, it would be rather surprising and quite impressive.

pray the old duffer snuffs it.

failing that tell him to do one, does he even have a NI number yet? can he legally pay tax under 16?

I've just looked that up. The only age that is relevant to taxation is 75, when you get a higher personal tax allowance.

Strictly speaking, the OP's mate probably should declare his income from working and officially pay no tax as he doesn't earn enough. There's no reason to think HMRC would care, though.

Technically, even if your under the allowance, you *should* still register as self employed, and do a tax return. They just won't charge you anything, and maybe even pay you back(Savings account tax). HMRC have courses on this, it's fairly easy to do, if his parents do it for him.

But I don't they will care for a 15 year old.

And what annoys me is that people automatically doing cash in hand jobs means tax dodging... It's perfectly legit payment method, it's easier dodging tax that way, but does not imply that you are.

I wish it was that much.

The standard personal tax allowance is £8,105.

Deary me. Single person's allowance here is £13,370; married couple's £21,440. Not to mention the additional £3,000 allowance for each child you have (£6,000 if they are in higher education). Then mortgage interest relief.

loluktax :D

I used to hate Mary Whitehouse for this exact reason

I thought it was very funny.

Milky, milky.

I'm 29 and make 35 odd K on my base salary and close to 50k after consultations and private jobs, all taxes paid ;) Hardly have the time to go about making fliers and earning lunch money lol.

you work full time on 30k (so nothing special so you cannot be a doctor or some other high paid type) and make an extra 50k extra out of hours consultations ... are you a hooker?

The story: mate is 15, known him since he was 2, he likes computers wayy more than i do and probably knows a lot more than me about certain aspects.

Hes dead serious too as hes called police on people just visting another neighbour as he found people exiting a house at 11pm to be very dodgy and was sure a 'deal' was being done.

Just wow. I hope you havn't been touching him up and paying him for 'things'. Been 29 as you say.... you should already know what would happen without anyone needing to tell you.
