they might be a neighbour/friends son (they have known them since they were 2) so what else would you call it? an acquaintance would sound even more dodgy, but I suppose a mates son would have been a better way.

There are many reasons he could be a friend. Now if he said he was "one of the mates" it would be a bit strange.

He could be a friends son, a family friend, neighbour, girlfriends brother, all sorts of different things..

It's just unfortunate we live a society with an irrational fear of paedophillia making you feel that way.

The worst is, it makes totally normal people reluctant to have anything to do with kids (due to the fear being accused of being a paedophile) I'm not even sure who to blame.

Perhaps modern media, with all the "A PEADO IS CURRENTLY LIVING UNDER YOUR BED" style reporting.

You know it's this kind of over analysis that has put me off doing photography, everybody is paranoid these days, you pull a camera out near a child "oh my God he could be a Pedo", it really is sad.

Why is it odd.....I am friends with lots of people far younger than me and older......what is odd is the perception that it is odd in our society.

The funny thing is this only happens when you're in England. When I was away in Spain a couple of weeks ago parents had no qualms about whipping out the camera and taking pics of their kids in the swimming pool. Do that in the UK and you'd have special branch raiding your house and taking your PC away.

I even picked up a leaflet for a water park which featured an image of a topless little girl on the front.

At first I was like "OMG, you can print things like that" and then I realised it was me and my stupid English culture over paedophilia that was the problem, not the Spaniard who made the leaflet.

Although one sweet moment did happen when my 4 year old niece saw a little Spanish girl about her age running down the beach with no top on and she said to my brother -in-law "Daddy that girl's got no top on, you can't do that, that's cheating"
