PES/FIFA blurring on 40" TV?

Bonjour.

I have recently picked up a Samsung 40" Series 6 TV, 1080p with 100hz refresh rate.

When playing either PES (360) or FIFA (PS3) on it, there is a really distinct blurring around the players when they start to run.

I would've thought that the 100hz should've cured any potential issues like that, even when 100hz is off it makes no difference.

On father's 32" LG jobby, there is absolutely no blurring whatsoever so I'm stumped, I can only think the response time is impossible high.

Has anyone else noticed this issue on their tv playing games, is it a common fault, is my TV possibly faulty or is it just a load of filth?

Cheers.

I have noticed a similar thing on my 100hz Bravia on Fifa 10 (PS3). I just put it down to poor programming as no other game gives me bluring and Fifa 09 didn't.

I should say as well that this is not something that is always noticeable, it only seems to be on freekicks, at no other time do I get any ghosting on my LCD, hence why I just put it down to bad programming.

I've just tried Resistance 2 on both TV and my monitor and there is a difference.

With the TV it looks as though there are two frames per second, like there's the previous frame still on the screen just half the opacity, like ghosting.

On my monitor there is no ghosting at all.

I noticed on a friends Samsung 37" tv that when watching sd sky, there was this weird blurring around moving objects, i put it down to whatever processing is going on with the tv.

If it is ever really cold my tv ghosts for the first 5-10 mins after I turn it on, Must be the liquid crystal warming up, it doesn't do it when it is warm in the room

Does it not go away after a while?

I have ghosting in football games if my xbox is connected via component, but connecting via HDMI I have no issues.

My tv is only a cheapo Hannspree 32" though.

You need to enable gaming mode to eliminate this over HDMI, works fine on my Samsung 40" Series 6 ;) however I only suffer this on my PS3 as that's over HDMI, my 360 is via VGA and has no ghosting or delay at all.

It doesn't have anything called "pixel precise HD" on the TV does it? Our Phillips TV has this option & if it isn't turned off it causes ghosting.

Also as been said already see if there is a game mode option.

I've tried the gaming mode, seemingly makes no difference.

The screen really struggles with grey colours; when playing FIFA and pressing the PS button the grey menu appears and it looks like it's struggling so much.

I've messed with every setting, 100hz, Game mode etc etc.

A friend suggested turning DNIe off but rumour has it it's potentially TV knackering.

This isn't TV knackering as you put it, however to do this you have to go into the service menu, if you get something wrong in there, then THAT is potentially TV knackering.

Have you checked the quality of the cable connecting your console to your TV, is it a cheap brand or a decent make, I know there will not be a LOT in it, but cheaper connections CAN make a little different in some areas.

I disagree, it's a digital connection, quality of connection will make no comparible difference. It will either work, or it won't.

As for ghosting, am I the only who's thinking "well, it's because it's an LCD"?.

Well when you take into account quality and grade of wire, length of wire, resistance of wire etc ... all the different factors that effect cable etc, its not as simple to say all cables are equal and provide either a connection or not digital or whatever, they CAN have an impact on image and sound, this is something I have seen over and over again ;)

And as for it being LCD, no ghosting isn't always common place but again that depends on many factors which you'll be able to find details of on google.

I don't have a 100hz TV but if the Xbox is running at 60hz then where are the extra 40hz of refreshes coming from? Could this be the cause of the ghosting?

No that wouldn't cause it as the TV would be able to output just 60hz

Fry750, how are you connecting your 360 to the TV?

imo the issue may be with one of the processes or filters your LCD is passing the image thorugh, like pixel ramping or overdrive. I would bet that disabling DNIe would cure your problem.
