Hi guys,

Not ventured in here before!

Looking at getting a new motor as mine is over 5 years old now and done 133k miles.

Just wondering with the price of petrol now cheaper is it best to go for one of those or is diesel still more economical even though the price is higher.

It will be either a 2.0L pertrol or 2.2L diesel.

cheers.

People will say it depends totally on your mileage as generally you'd expect more problems with a diesel call with injectors etc etc.

If your doing upwards of 15-20k miles a year, a diesel is far more viable really.

I did the 133k since new and it is currently a diesel. Never gave it much thought last time but with the price difference.

The car has not given me a days trouble so far.

It depends on your mileage and the cars in question. With a 2.0 petrol or a 2.2 diesel it sounds like you are looking at either a Jaguar X-Type or a Mondeo? With the Jag, get a 2.5+ petrol. If its the Mondeo, I'd take the diesel over the 2.0 petrol unless I was doing under 15k a year in which case I'd have a 2.5.

Agreed, I think at that sort of mileage, Diesel is more logical.

Gone are the days where the bigger diesel was equivalent to the smaller petrol - in fact the 2.0 diesel is probably a better engine than a 2.0 petrol if you are looking at the mondeo/x-type

If the car hasn't given you a days trouble why change it? 133k isn't really a big deal especially on a car thats just 5 years old.

Its a merc.

I have a C220 at the moment and was either going for a C200 or C220 CDI.

I do a lot of miles so diesel is the better workhorse then?
