Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

Needed petrol on the way home last night, quickly nipped into Morrisons...It was queued out, full of women causing havoc reversing in and out of isles.

When putting my card in, I just looked at the cashier and smirked....'Usually this busy?'. The laughter ensued at all the monkeys in a panic.

Wonder how long the 'no strike until after easter' thing is gonna take to filter down to Joe bloggs so we can resume normal service?

Or is it gonna be like this for the next week or 2?!

Just driven from Southampton to Portsmouth. Every filling station I passed was closed. Current remaining tank range 32 miles

Should just make it to me then :-)

Local Sainsburys (just off A27 Chichester) has fuel and 20 minute ques.

Can't comment on the other stations on the A27 though.

Our prayers are with you :D

Saw this on FB, made me lol!

That will just about get you to the start point of the meet tomorrow morning :p

The whole scenario is quite amusing. We have-

People complaining about the "morons panic buying" when getting fuel themselves. How come everyone else is a moron?!

Interviews on the local radio / TV / Newspapers with "experts" or garage owners stating "There is no fuel shortage" normally shortly followed by them saying when they ran out / expect to run out. That sounds pretty short to me!

Constant miss quoting of LOL CAMERON AND THE *insert expletive* TORIES "David Cameron told everyone to go and fill up RIGHT NOW" er... did he, I must have missed that.

People becoming judge and jury on what other people do- "LOLs he only put £16 in!!1" Well... maybe they are doing a long trip and that is the difference between making it back home or not? "Selfish people filling right up, only take what you need" Maybe they 'need' to fill right up?

Round here the garages have started rationing to £20 at a time. No idea where they got that figure from but with the price of fuel these days I would class £20 as bum all really. So even if I wasn't going in to the garage every other day to squeeze a bit more in now I would have to go to the garage every other day (or more)... nice.

Oh well, the way I see it is that x amount of fuel is used per day and y amount is produced and distributed. Once everyone has their comfort blanket amount in the tank it has to go back to normal, right? Only downside I can see is busier petrol stations with people topping up often rather than filling up from empty occasionally.

my local Asda closed their petrol station yesterday not because they ran out of fuel but because loads of people were threatening the staff, due to queue times and only having so many pump's open.

crazy!

Just been to my local Sainsbury's, queues were big (Not hours of waiting though) and got myself a full tank (48L @ £70) doing the Easter trip and will need another full tank before the trip back no doubt.

£20 is sod all.

Don't see why people are panicking, it's panicking which is making it worse. Theres no strike, not until at least after Easter.

LOL at Daily Mail:

Across the country in 70 degree heat, there were angry scenes yesterday as desperate drivers sought to fill up in case tanker drivers stage a walk out over Easter. Motorists sweltered for hours in lengthy queues yesterday as panic continued to grip Britain.

70° Fahrenheit is only 21.5°C, you muppets! IT IS NOT HOT, AND CERTAINLY NOT ENOUGH TO 'SWELTER' IN.

I JUST REALISED. I don't know if anyone has thought of this, but...

if you were in Government and found you needed to raise some revenue quickly, how better than to engineer a panic buy of the most heavily taxed commodity available?

We've had a nightmare today. I hope no lives were lost today because we couldnt do our job fast enough.

Struggled today with traffic blocking roads because they were queueing to buy fuel.
And Having to buy fuel ourselves. Well done to the govt for NOT sorting out essential workers fuel cards

I can't see that because people would have bought fuel anyway when they were running low. Most people have just filled their cars earlier than they would have but the government has caused a load of unnecessary chaos.
