My dad took my car for its MOT on Thursday to HiQ Guildford whilst I was housebound after an op, and it passed first time with 2 advisories.

However, once back, my dad told me they apparently said my emissions weren't quite right or something and advised a Powerboost Petrol Treatment Cleaner for the princely sum of £30. There's nothing to say on my paperwork about emissions failing, and I don't know whether this stuff was put in before or after the test.

I can't help feeling that he's been had. He mentioned that when he took my mum's 1997 Clio there a few months back, they said and used the same thing.

If it's of any relevance, I have recently (~600 miles) upgraded to premium unleaded to see if it made any difference. Currently there's Momentum 99 in the tank, which I understand is better quality anyway.

Thoughts?

So they charged your dad 30 quid for a fiver bottle of injector cleaner?

Just read that bit about your mums car too, thats obviously the way they get a few extra quid on an MOT then.

Iv seen them tipping bottles of whatever it is into diesels to get the emissions down but not after its done.

Yeah it's something Pre-MOT, usually if you own an old smogger and worried about the emissions test. Just passed this on emissions last year so running through a couple of bottles of Wynns Clean Burn to see if it makes a difference, or if it's a load of balls (likely) :p
