Petrol vs diesel and the variance from claimed figures.

I think its got harder to do as the cars have seen such increases in potential MPG but its easier to drive them further away from that sweet spot.

Also petrols warm up faster so unless your doing long journeys they will be closer to operating temperature faster than diesels.

My audi is interesting in this regards, its supposed to have a head design that helps it warm up faster. It does warm the water pretty darn quickly. Within 2 miles of starting the water temp is 90.
The oil temp however takes about 6 miles to match.
I would have thought it would be that the oil got up to operating temperature faster than the water, just goes to show.
