Petty Parking

Just because everyone does it, it doesnt make it ok!

Since when have we been able to commit an offence to not be a rubbish person and hinder others?

I bet the op would have something to say if someone blocked him on his garden, due to no dropped down kerb.

In cities you can't help it, they weren't built for cars, you park on kerbs or block the road. Councils know this so do not enforce an unworkable rule.

This is why neighbour wars start, it's not worth it and a bit of dignity and sensibility would mean you go blocking your neighbours in.

Technically he could legally put a car in as it's permissible to mount a curb "to gain access to a property".

However if you are 100% certain that there is no vehicle in there at the time, then you are not breaking any laws by parking in front of it as the offence is obstructing his lawful access to the public highway.

Depending on the layout, your car being there could be a PITA if he chose to, say, move a set of full size extension ladders into the garage, however.

do you live in an area so bad that you cant talk to him about it ?

I've never had problems chatting with neighbours, especially about parking concerns. Dont get yourself into a tiz over it and just explain 'I will park it there whilst I open my gates' or whatever

I'm not the one getting into a tiz about it. Like when someone parks outside mine - not bothered. I always get car out early so I'm not blocked in. I can't park outside mine if the house opposite has their car parked outside theirs as I would be blocking the whole road. Garage next door is the nearest place.

A lovely old dear used to live next door to me who didn't have a car, and was perfectly happy for anyone to park outside her house. However, the cretin that lived the next house along seemed to think that it was his space, and would leave notes on mine and my wifes car if we dared to park there (as other people would often park outside our own house).

After a few of these I'd had enough and knocked on his door, to be answered by a women who was obviously a lot younger than the grumpy old git, so I naturally assumed it was his daughter. I asked to speak to her father and got the most evil glare I have ever seen...turns out it was his wife :D Silly sod tried to argue he'd been parking there for years so he was more entitled to that bit of public road than me. I didn't handle it very well to be honest as it ended up in a shouting match, but at least he didn't leave any more notes left after that,
