Firstly, Yes i'm the same person who wants a Lotus Elise next year, but hey might as well buy something fun until I try and get that.

I've been given the opportunity to buy an absolutely MINT Peugeot 205 CTI. I am unsure if it's 1.6 or 1.9 but I really don't care. It will be quicker than my 1993 Fiesta Diesel!

Thing is...is it a bit girly? A cheap posers car? Or is it a classic?

I am unsure.

Opinions please

Did they do the CTI in 1.9? I can only ever remember seeing 1.6 versions.

I love the 205 GTI, it is without doubt a classic but the CTI I always thought was a girls car.

Oh FFS, stop being so dependent on other people's opinions. If everyone tells you that a pink Skoda Favorit is the car to the buy, drive and be seen in, are you going to go out and buy a bucket load of them? All this external validation and all this 'I'll only do something if 10 people tell me its okay' is such a problem on this forum.

If you want it the car, you like the car, you've done your research, then just go out and buy it. It should be about what YOU want to drive, not what OTHER people want you to drive.

Hahaha. Lighten up mate!

For a start what is the point in the forum if not obtaining other people's opinions? Here was me thinking it was possibly the primary reason.

The reason I ask, which should be obvious, is because a small part of me thinks "girly" whereas another part of me thinks "its like the classic 205 GTI without the Chav factor". Hence i was wondering whether others thought the same or whether it was me being unreasonable.

They are all 1.6's, I suspect the shell was just too floppy to take the extra power of the 1.9. My suggestion would be to to leave it and get a GTi, no leaks, nice stiff body and plenty of choice.

It does look like a bit of a fagwagon. Any self respecting man wouldn't be seen dead in one of those. Get a proper GTi.

You're not asking about model revisions, you're not asking about power outputs (in fact, you say you don't care), you're not asking about mechanicals....you're more concerned about whether you would be seen as a bit 'girly' buying a convertible. If you want a convertible go and buy a convertible! Homosexuality is totally acceptable in this day and age!

Happy now? :p

On a serious note, its such a banger that its lost a lot - possibly all - of its gay factor anyway. Gay cars are only gay if they're new or it's the latest fashion accessory and match the latest pashmina wraps eg. BMW Mini Convertible, A4 convertible etc. You buy a 15 or 20 year old 205CTI and you would come across as someone who just wants a cheap open top runabout. Well, mostly.......
