I'm looking for a cheap run around to get to my new job, and come accross a T reg Peugeot 406 LX TDI Estate, which is a class C insurance job.

Now, on closer look, it needs a new boot-door and lock (Which I can get from the same place for about £50 plus spraying, which myself and a mate would do.)

It done 127K miles, but from what I know its nothing for a diesel peugeot engine.

Now the price for this is £795.

What does everyone think?

Yes. Can't think of a better diesel estate for the money than that.

But dont expect 100% reliability in every respect though.

Engine should be fine but remeber the rst of the car will wear so give it a good inspection i.e suspension, exhaust, etc. Good value though

Not worth it for the money

You should be able to get an immaculate one for that money

Cat C is repairable but it's generally pretty bad (in comparison to Cat D) so the damage could well be worse then it looks

When I wrote my Astra off that was only Cat D - I wrapped it around a lampost twisting the chassis, moving the seats, breaking the centre console, ripping the tyres off the alloys (it hit a wall first) and breaking the bumpers

Now you have me concerned.....the car I buy needs to be reliable.

Do you know what items I can expect to be unreliable?

General french build quality stuff. The old peugeot diesel engines are very reliable, so the engine itself, and major mechanical components should be fine, but things like central locking, sensors (anything electrical really!) are bound to go wrong!

You know what, I missed the bit about it being a Cat C, really not worth it tbh, must be tired.

Category C is that a garage repair (at retain costs) would be more than the value of the car pre-accident.

If this is right, then you can understand why its category C, after all, in mint condition, its worth what.......£1200 ish. At garage rip-off rates the labour alone would be nearly that, forgetting a new boot door from Peugot and spraying.

I'm sure a replacement boot of a scrapper would be at most £50.

To me, this car sounds reasonable....tell me if im wrong.

Don't be daft. Immaculate 406 diesel Estates > £800.

Are you sure? If so, I stand corrected :)

I was sure that an 8 year old high mileage 406 wouldn't command anything more
