Phanteks PH-TC14PE PWM

I received a PWM adapter from Phanteks, it doesn't half make a difference, its great to have my quiet pc back again :D

You can barely hear the fans with the adapter connected, as for the cooler itself i'm fairly sure its knocked 2-3 degrees off my idle temps compared to the cooler master 612s which is also a great cooler for the money.

I think i'll go for the 3rd Phanteks fan and run it from my fan controller.

If you want the looks do it. But 3rd fan will only be 1c difference. I've ran 1x, 2x and 3x Phanteks and Thermalright TY-140 and TY-143 fans. Very little difference. I prefer Thermalright TY-143 because their housing is red ;)

I idle at 24-27c in 21-22c ambient at 680rpm. 100% load for hours never goes above 52c or above 1050rpm. I tried unplugging all fans... case and cooler and after an hour @ 100% load temps were stable @ 75c.

I would have used my thermalright TY 140mm fans with them being PWM fans but olive green doesn't really compliment a blue cooler, i prefer the white casing of the phanteks fans against the blue.

My idle temps with an ambient of around 20 degrees are core#0 32, core#1 28, core#2 25, core3# 28. Core#0 has always been a few degrees higher than the rest.

Have to admit I like the way the Phanteks fans look. But every fan in my system is TY-140 or TY-143 now... and all are controlled by cpu_fan socket PWM. TY-140/143 are about same from 680-780rpm. Then CPU fans (TY-143 start ramping up faster. 900/980, 1000/1270, 1100/1650, 1200/2000 and 1300/2500rpm.

Problem is I don't want to push my CPU hard enough to use the cooler/fan potential... that's why I end up with the 52c @ 1050rpm w/ 21c ambient. Hot summer days I saw 55c @ 1200rpm.. :)

I got bigger problems. My Gigabyte HD 5770 Silent Cell just died. Warranty is good until 2014 but I can't find a reciept. Person who gave it to me is dead now too. :(

Doyll, this is one for you.

Do you reckon the Thermalright TY 140mm fan would fit it into the white housing of the phanteks fan housing ? The are both 140mm fans, I can't see why not as long as the fan workings and mini PC board can sit in the same position. That way you would have PWM fans in the phanteks housing.

You like the looks of the Phanteks housing/shroud but want the TY-140 fan in it?

It's an interesting idea. ;)

I have never had either fan and housing apart but would be surprised if would work. The motor field is in fan blade housing and motor armature is built onto the fan shroud/frame. Suspect it would be a right bear to get the motor-works off of the shroud/frame of both... Then re-attach TY-140 works onto Phanteks.... and not have same hole/cover on framework to install clip and seal it all up...

Ty-140 has a 42mm motor housing, Phanteks is 36.3mm. Ty-140 has 4 mounting braces from motor to shroud, Phanteks has 3.

Would probably be easier to cut the outer shroud/frames off of motor mounting braces on TY-140. Cut the motor mounting braces out of Phanteks. and put the Ty-140 center hub with motor mounting braces and fan into the Phanteks outer shroud/frame.

I have 4 red and white Phanteks just setting here waiting for you to do your magic on.:D

Fitted this in my new build (not the easiest fitting solution unless you have a very long screwdriver) and the heatsink is easily up to the task, but I'm really unimpressed with the fans. At low rpm a ticking/rattling noise has become apparent, the first out of the box and then the second fan the next day.

I find I have to run them at at least 850RPM to drown out the noise and even then it's still noticeable. Now I've come from custom watercooling but I've got the same 4 case and PSU fans that I had before so it's not like I expected them to be silent.

Is anyone else noticing anything similar?

I was debating sending it back under DSR as it's only bearable when idling if I have the fans turned off, if I've just been unlucky with the fans I might give Phanteks a shout about some replacements.

I suggest you contact Phanteks. They have great customer service. Think I'm on a first name bases with them they've helped me so much.

I use Thermalright TY-140 fans. Didn't have PWM adapter in my kit so put my TY-140s on from day one. When I got the adapter I tried the F140TS for a couple of days but went back to TY-140 as all my fans are same and all are controlled by PWM signal splitter. F140TS didn't run at same speed as other so didn't use them. While I was running them didn't notice and ticking. They sounded different to TY-140 but most fans have their own sounds. Now have a couple TY-143 fans on cooler.. Red on red with orange blades look cool ;)... but never run them above 1100rpm as that keeps CPU below 52c max and system is silent.
