Hi, Ive just built my self a new pc after having a cursed sapphire board that decided it would die when i upgraded the ram thank god *new pc* :D, and I was just wandering what temps I should expect in the bios.

I built my gf a 2.1 Phenom x3 system which sits at 29c with a stock cooler in bios, mine sits at 39c in bios with the asus Silent Knight Cooler, seems a tad high for idle. maybe I put a little to much paste on Im not sure.

Also If anyone wouldnt mind telling me what the best setting for overclocking is for this as I would try atm but unfortunally I recieved 2 duff harddrives from OC they dropped them on the floor nice and dented,Just my luck:rolleyes:

Phenom 955 3.2Ghz Quad
Gigabyte 790FX MB
Patriot 2x2GB Ram 7-7-7-20
and soon to be the 5870 when they release it Zzzzz

Thats 39c in bios with cool n'd quiet "on" and no Overclock, just the standard 3.2Ghz running with the asus silent knight cooler. Ive never personally owned a pc that went over 35c @ idle so im unsure atm what my cpu should be at.

both my old 939 2Ghz dualcore toledo 29c and my gf's 2.1 Triple core @29c in bios @standard clock. just seems a tad high for a smaller 45nm, plus I seen one comment on this site under the review saying he brought a Oc bundle [email protected] running 30c with the coolmaster v8 :(

35c idle is fine , my 940 idles around 33-35c at stock, even sometimes 38c if it's a hot day..

u should be more worryed about the underload temp.

people have different cases, different fans also x number of fans and different places that the case is sitting. so its hard to base it on other peoples temps.

Doesn't sound overly hot, that's about what mine idles at on the stock cooler, 35ish.

It may run slightly cooler if you select "Balanced" as your power mode rather than "High performance" as this seems to throttle the CPU down better for me than Cool'n'Quiet alone.

it can be down to a load of things. which thermal paste/amount of, cpu cooler/is it fit correctly, ambient room temperature and the cpu itself.

Sounds fine to me considering. On load I've never reached over 40 degrees with idle consistently around 33-35 degrees

Ok thanks for all the advice, I think maybe I was being a little parnoid lol, But I got my new Akasa Ambient 2x120mm system fans 2day and @ idle 35c up to 53c under the stabilty test using AMD's Overdrive utility. So I think all is in check now, I used the artic silver thermal paste. Just awaiting the 2 WD Blue 320GB to raid and then I will do a small over clock maybe 3.4 or 3.5Ghz depending. I think also what doesnt help is im borrowing my mates ATI 2900 and that thing is power hungry 50c+ VRM 100c so nice and toasty sucking all that hot air straight into the cpu fan sure isnt helping. cant wait to get my hands on this 5870... :D

yeah played cod 4 for a hr then it crashed so back to normal til get a decent cooler.

I will be getting the following rig soon:
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK)
Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit - OEM
Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

The 955 will be on stock cooler for now, and the memory should give me enough flexibility should I decide to overclock later on.

About your COD 4 crash, you might want to bump up the voltage for your CPU to make it stable. This CPU can take up to 1.5v safe.

However, from what I've read in the reviews, the stock cooler won't get you far for overclocking :( that's sad for a BE product.

However, how can I justify spending some 50 quid on a cooler that will get me to 3.8, when in 1-2 yrs time I can get a new CPU for 100 quid that will be faster than this? I always fail to see the point of going up 500Mhz or so for £50...

Am I missing something?

:) Later on I might get a cooler...

though it would have come cheaper to buy it now and bundle it with the rest (for shipping costs!)

then again I doubt a 500Mhz jump will effect me for now!
