Just a quick question really: I'm looking to get my first contract phone - the W810i on flext35. They offer insurance for £6 a month, though looking at it it only seems to cover loss if someone beats me up for the phone or breaks in and steals it. Is it worth getting insurance or is it an unnecessary cost?

Also, flext35 W810i is best deal around at the moment I take it?

I'm pretty sure the insurance I get with O2 is pretty comprehensive in that it covers accidental damage too... Your home insurer might do something similar, and add your phone to the policy for a small amount.

The old say "insurance is a waste of money unless you use it! !!!
You never know and handsets cost a lot to replace.

On my policy from t mobile it covers me for anthing?

EDIT:Yep i just found the book the £5.99 one and the £8 one which im on as its data phone both cover for everything

You need the phone safe policy notes not t mobiles ones as they are out of date

WEll seeing as my phone is a MDA PRO id be looking at, at least £300 to replace it plus the cost of sim which is around £25 i think?

T mobile now cover you for

Loss = yes
Theft=yes
accidental damaged =yes
water damage=yes
breakdown outside of warranty=yes
worldwide cover= yes
£1000 time of airtime abuse
£25 excess first claim

And thats the lowest policy

0845 120 2097....imo worth having just for the accidental damage clause..This is assuming you have ahalf decent phone of course

Funnily enough - I had a lenghty argument (which dragged on for a few weeks and many meetings) last year with the manager of a well known high street mobile shop because of the insurance that was misold to my wife.

The phone was stolen from our car which was broken into - the insurance didn't cover the phone from being stolen from the car (as pointed out in the times article - as a force-free theft) - although if the phone had fallen out of her pocket, it would have paid out ???? The phone insurance compnay wanted us to claim on our car insurance ???

I stated to him that in future I woauld ask my wife to 'loose' her phone every 12 months then ;) and that when we were sold the 'premium' insurance - we were specifically told it would cover her for it being stolen and that his company failed to state that it included from cars (and it wasn't even on view in the car - it was in the glove compartment.)

We ended up getting a new handset off them, anyway ;)

....once you start lying to claim on insurance it's a long and slippery sloap.
One lie becomes two, then three and then before you know it you've got a whole host of lies on top of lies and things can get very awkward when any one of them suddenly collapses.
The idea of "losing" a phone every 12 months would not be very sensible at all.

From a personal point of view I cannot believe you signed up for an insurance policy without first checking what was and wasn't covered.
Theft from car would have been listed and in this case listed as "not covered" yet after this very event you then went back and argued the case??

Nice outcome I guess - you managed to win that one.
They give you a refurb phone and "get rid of you" so to speak.
I somehow doubt if you'd gone in a month after getting the latest and greatest handset you'd have had such an outcome to your liking.

To first poster, I wouldnt bother getting insurance on a phone worth as much as the W810i. Insurance would cost £103 for the 18 months and then £25 for a loss. The phone is worth what atm..... £160 from ebay, so might JUST be worth getting it now if you lost it in the next week. But if the phone is lost in 6 or 12 months time it will be worth what... £60 mayb in the condition it will be in, so all in all its probally not worth it tbh. I have insurance for any phone that is worth 3 times the 12 month cover cost, as I loose my phone about once every 3 years. For instence I had an 8800 worth £500 and lost it after 6 months and the insurance cost £5 p/m so that was well worht it.

£160? More like £190-£230

It is worth it if you have lost stuff before, most insurance will cover you even if for example it just falls out of your pocket on the bus as well as unsolicited calls, and physical damage (you accidentally dropped it and it smashed or you hit it with a hammer (it happens!)) It can especially be useful on T-Mobile where the warranty runs out after 12 months on an 18 month contract, so if it does break, it will be covered (Well....should be)

I took up the insurance because t mobile gave me lots of free stuff if I signed up to it!
I will be cancelling after a month, waste of money imo.

What kind of free stuff? I've just ordered an MDA Pro, so I think I'll need insurance given the replacement value of the phone.

a £50 bluetooth hands free, phonecase and car charger. worth about £70 in total... took a lot of work getting the phonecase and charger though!
