hi all,

I'm being forced to change my home telephone number after having found our number plastered all over the "adult" internet and receiving numerous unwanted phone calls.

BT are happy to swap our number over for us and are doing the work on monday. however we currently have a contract with pipex for adsl which expires in november.

I've been told that when the number changes we'll need to cancel the existing contract and then sign up again. If this is the case (and if so I may be out of pocket to the tune of £188!) do I need to sign back up with pipex?

Sky have contacted us to say we can now get broadband through them and at £10 per month it's way cheaper than pipex and this is the route I wish to take so if we don't have to sign up with pipex again all the better.

Any advice would be appriciated.

many thanks

I think they're right - changing number will break your ADSL contract, as that's done by phone number too.

I would suggest Sky is a better bet than Pipex - in terms of price and performance.

Re whether you'd be allowed - you'd have to speak to Pipex. The contract will be forcibly terminated by you... don't know whether they'd hold you to re-activating.

It shouldn't break the contract per se (I'd expect Pipex would either charge you the activation fee and let you run to term or charge you the cancellation fee and let you go), but you will have to get someone to reactivate the ADSL.

With someone advance warning (and someone there with a clue), there's nothing stopping Pipex stopping your ADSL getting ceased too...
