Hi,

Got a new phone and it wants me to phone a number with the new sim inside to make sure I have the phone, but I want to use my existing number and sim with the new phone.

Has anyone else been in this situation? What do I do?

Thanks for any help.

found this: http://www.phones4u.co.uk/important-info/keep-your-number.asp

but could someone explain that for a pay as you go phone and what exactly it's all about.

I'm confused aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Ok, the sim you have been given will be activated via the network within 24 hours if you haven't done a number port. If you were looking to keep the number then either they would have given you a cancellation letter asking for your PAC code or if you already had the PAC (or they got it off the network) they would have put it into their system.

If you're porting from Pay As You Go on the same network then it should only be a matter of a a day or so until your number is activated onto the NEW sim card. If you're moving from contract to contract to a different network then this will take 7 working days to complete and you should be given a temp number inbetween that time to make use of the old phone. If you have been given a cancellation letter, send it off and wait for a reply from your old network. Then give the new network a ring or pop into the shop and give them the letter, they can ring up and do all the talking for you. The cancellation letter>post>PAC code way will take up to 2-3 weeks at most but you will always have your number active on the old sim card if you need to recieve calls. Just simply make out going calls on the new card once its on.

Hope that helps!

Ok I didn't mention to them that I wanted to use my existing number and bought this new pay as you go online. My old sim is for the same network.

So I need a PAC? I can't just use the old sim?

I read on their site that if I don't use the new sim and phone their number in 14 days they class the phone as network free and charge me extra?

Sorry, I'm still rather confused, either I'm thick or it's too early and this coffee isn't working. Thanks so far.

anyone know how long it takes for their free top up to appear on the new phone? I need credit to then phone in to register, and then swap to my old sim lol.
