In say ten yers time when game become photo relistic and you can not upgrade the graphic no further. what will the ATI and Nvida do there market would disapear and all people would have to do is say buy a graphic card only if it broke with age. But is there any thing left to do after photorealism comes a longor or is that it for ATI and Nvida.???

We could have photo realistic graphics now if we only rendered a flat surface, but it's all about scale. If you have a massive city with hundreds of complex moving bodies then the hardware will have to keep up.

We said we'd have photo realistic graphics 10 years ago, and we wont in 10 years, not truley. The scale of games will keep getting bigger and bigger and this will be and has been the driving force for hardware for some time now.

yer but when they become photot relistic say to scale so say 500 people look life like.what will be next??????

As I said, a stupidly large amount of complexity. Either that or a new method of filtering, like anti-aliasing. That wasn't even thought about at first then they decided to tackle it. Don't worry, there'll be plenty of stuff for 3d card manufacturers to play with, scale being the most important.

By the looks of it the current generation cards are awful at complex objects which has been shown by the recent physics development. Physics and graphics will feed off each other for a while I imagine.

thanks :D . look like ATI and nvida have got many more years of makeing huge amount of money out of us lot lol .but i cant wait in till we get to that stage of phototrelistic game how awesome would that be.

maybe they will try out new experiment like smell o vision games :p lol would that be good playing source and smelling the gun powber as you fire your gun else may they might bring out 3d vision where your men in say dawn of war come out of the sreen and fight in front of you and around you.Imagine what it woul be like looking at porn and girls jumping out of the screen how good would that be :p lol have any of you lot got any ideas what might happen next.

actually we will have near photo realistic Graphics in 5 years, you can expect something looking as good as final fantasy: the spirits within at least. for the simple reason that Although the games are becomming more complex, the computers and avaiable power to build them are also improving, its like an ever increasing sliding scale.

p.s. if you want proof of the technolody comming, look at these...

I used to think we'd have photorealistic graphics by the year 2000. I also used to think that Metal Gear Solid looked real. Gotta ask yourself, will it EVER look real? I doubt it will.

i think you were probably one of the few who thought that we would have that level of graphics tech by that date :p , the Computing power and technology simply wasnt available for it.

one day it bount to you can only upgrade to what the eye see as realstic the day will come when games are photorealistic but when is anyone guss lol

Doesn't look at all real to me. As I just said, I remember looking at the PS2 and going "OMFG THAT LOOKS REAL". It was simply in comparison to what I had at the time and it still is.

Yes but in 1995 we didn't know this did we? Unless of course you're somehow a prophet.

if the above head pics dont look real to you then your a blind man. its not perfect by a long shot, but its not bad at all.

there goging at such a fat pace with games toady every six months the game keep looking better and better check out unreal tounment 2007http://www.peliplaneetta.net/images/news/5718/b_6.jpg

I've always thought;
Surely as graphics get more realistic, coding them takes longer? When you have a photo-realistic city, full of people and buildings, surely just designing the thing would take years?
So eventually, there may be an altogether different bottleneck - the coders!
Is that a stupid idea, or could this happen?

As I said before, there is no difference between the pace we're going at now than we were 10 years ago. Infact I'd say we're slowing down if anything. Graphics today look pretty similar to DOOM3 and that was 2 years ago.
