Photos from a local show...Picture heavy!

Well, standing idly in the chippy waiting for my two cod and chips, I noticed a plain A4 poster advertising a local fund-raiser car show. Being only in Eggington and free on that day I figured I could run out STM for a little bit and at least use her :)

So, pootling along to see what turned up, I was instantly knocked flat! I was only expecting about 20 cars, if that. Instead? About 100 cars, a load of agricultural and industrial stuff and some military vehicles too!

Lots of real expensive kit, too. Wasn't complaining!

There was also the usual assortment of random stands, activities and confectionary. Lovely burger van too :P

Enough said! Only needs a Zetec and a turbo and "Rapid response!" Added :)

Some tasty motors there. That E30 looks very nice.

I wish my mum kept her Jensen Interceptor though :(

That Speed 25, it looks identical to one which featured on a program where some really old (~90) man auctioned off his Alvis.

He used to be a pro racer many years ago and still drives today!

How can you tell a fake Cobra from a real one? What cars are the cobra kits based on? What is fakesnake's built on?

The chassis tend to be custom-built for the kit in question, usually from galvanised steel. Then a donor car (usually Jag, Sierra or similar RWD layout car) is used to provide the running gear.

Electrics tend to be a custom harness and then the powerplant is usually a good ol' Yank lump, 3.5 Rover V8 or Jag V12. Quite a few with V6's pootling about too.

Telling it, well, you pick up on the little things. Trim differences, floorpans, numberplates, the 'look' of the car, the patina, wether it's actually the right shape and so on. Once you know what you're looking for it's quite easy to tell. Most replica Cobras tend to have slightly different proportions - like larger rear 'haunches' or wider grills, so you can use those to spot the 'fake' ones too.

Regardless, Cobra kits are still awesome! I'd like one to tinker with, or a GT40 replica.

my bosses has a rover v8 i think.. but im not sure.. it might just be a pussy rover lump.. is rover tho lol. i really must see it. i dont think he knows its one of my all time fav cars.. this is coming from a BIG jap fan.. id have a real cobra over a skyline anyday ;)

Yea, the Jensen was insane. Keep seeing cheap ones around and am tempted (can get a T&T'd one for 3k) but it'd probably be more trouble than sense.

There's a Rover V8 converted one on eBay at the moment, which does actually make sense.

The car next to it was one of the first "Jensens", bearing the Ford badge but I've only got one blurry photo of it :(

Few more of "that" Jensen:

Not sure - wasn't any specs with it. From the photos, pretty certain it's a small block Chevy, so probably a 350 (5.7 litres)
Yes, the distributor is not at the front so it's a Chevy. Fords and Rovers are at the front and no-one really uses any other 8's in Cobras.

The Interceptor is one of the few cars that I think is actually nicer on the inside than it is on the out. Many cars of that period were let down by badly designed interiors that look cumbersome and out of date now.

I've never been a fan of the outside of the Interceptor, the back end is too large for my taste.

The SS is gorgeous though. Ho yes!
