Photoshop source files help please!

Hmmmm, I have created a composite image in Photoshop using several different photos on different layers. Is there an easy way to find out the properties of the original source file, I'm looking specifically for file names...

Say I have a layer with a photo of a dog in it, but I have 5 photos of dogs which are all similar so I can't work out which photo I used.

That I know of, no! It only keeps the file info for the background layer, and that is only if you didn't drop that into a custom canvas.
